Me was about fif ty years of Age, leaves a wife and four children. The burial ser vices were conducted by Elder J. N. Hurst who is very sick with ma laria, is not any better. Master Bernard Hines who was burnt by powder last week is im proving very fast. Miss Susie Whitehurst.had care fully prepared for her pupils a final entertainment at her home. The en tertainment consisted of songs.plays etc. A large crowd of friends and young people attended and thor oughly enjoyed the evening. Mr. C. E. Gardner is agent for a most unique kindler which is being manufactured at Halifax, N. C. by Messrs. J. A. Dunn and M. F. Mc- Mahou. It is a brick made of a pe culiar clay found on the banks of the Roanoke uear Halifax. The brick is about two incites square, ami is prepared for kindling a fire by soaking it 3 or 4 minutes in kero sene. Misses Sallie Roberson and Wliit head and Charlie Whichard were visitors at Mr. Z. M. Wliitchurst's Sunday Mr. H.Brown's residence caught on fire last week from a spark front the chimney.
