SIFTIMBBK 23, 1904 LOCAL NEWS —We are unable to give aix pages this week as announced in our last issue, owing to the fact that Judge Parker's letter of ac ceptance will not be given out' till Monday, and, besides, we are run ning with a short force which pre vents us getting up other matter, and also curtails our court report. Ellison. —This term of court has been attended by an unsually large crowd. —Williamston market is the stuff and the farmers are finding it out right along. —Send in your subscription. Dixon, Democra tic candidate for Auditor, will ad dress the people of Martin county at Parmele September 26th. —The attraction this week has been the free concert given by Dr. R. H Drake, on the vacant lot cor ner Main and Washington streets. The concert every evening has been attended by large crowds. —The visiting lawyers in attend ance upon this term of court are : Messrs. A. O. Gaylord and H. S Ward, of Plymouth; Don Gilliam, of Tarboro; A. R. Dunning, of Robersonville; J. T. Waldo, of Hamilton; and S. Justus Everett, of Palmyra. —lt is stated that some Rober sonville citizens have suffered nu merous burglaries recently; four being committed last week. Al though blood hounds have been put on the trail, nothing has de veloped. We were unable to get full particulars. —lt is understood that the pe. tition to the P. O. Department at Washington, from Goose Nest, to change the name of that town, has been held up by the P. O. authori ties in order to investigate it. It is stated that quite a number of the patrons of the office have made a kick against the change. —Rev. T. A. Smoot, of Fayette ville, filled the pulpit at the Metho dist church Sunday morning and night for Rev. T. H. Sutton. The attendance at both services was larger than nsual. Mr. Smoot is an able exponent of the gospel and all that heard him were deeply im pressed and are high in his praise. Latter to Rev. T. H. Satton Williamston, N. C. Sliagerland & Shutter painted the Episcopal church; esti mated 40 gallons; took 28. SOSK painters painted the Catho lic charcb; estimated 50 gallons; .... took 39. Of course, they estimated from what they had been using. The saving in paint and work is $4 or f5 a gallon. Critcher left Monday morning for Darlington, S. C. Messrs. W. T. Grimes and B. B. Sheriod, are in town this week. Dr. R. J. Nelson, of Robeson ville, is attending court this week. Rev. T. A. Smoot left Monday morning for his home in Fayette ville. • Mr, J. G. Godard went to Ever etts on business Saturday after- Miss Annabelle Everett attended the wedding at Everetts Wednes day morning. Messrs. C. H. Baker and G. A. Richards, of Hamilton, were in town last Sunday. Messrs. A. L. Wynn, Mc. G. Wynn and A. L. Robuck, of Rob ersonville township, were here this week. Capt.John T.Hyraan and Messrs. T. ft. Combs, Ben Casper and Z. M. Whitehurst were among the citizens of Oak City seen in town this week. Messrs. C. N. Bellamy, T. K. Darden, D. C. Tones, F. L. Glad stone, W. E. Gladstone and Will Lawrence were among the Hamil tonians seen in town this week. Messrs. A. S. Roberson, W. A. James, Clayton Keel, J. C. Smith, Ed James, Church Barnhill, Gid Barnhill, B. R. Jenkins and R. E. Grimes, of Robersonville, were leen on our streets this week. Mrs.M.B Dawes and children, Miss Emma Rodgerson and John 1,. Rod person, of Elizabeth City, passed through town Tuesday morning enroute to Everetts to attend the Rodgerson-MacNaughton nuptials. Messrs. Edward Smith, J. A. Askew, J. S. Davenport, L. W. Hamilton, Buck Roberson, T. H. Gurkin, J. C. Getsinger, W. W. Davis, J T. Casper and Dr. U. S. Hassell were here attending court this week. DIED Mias Nina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. G. White, of Everetts, Wednesday night nl>out o'clock, after an illness of ten days with typhoid-pneumonia. Miss Nina was about sixteen years old The entire community is in deep sym pathy with the bereaved family. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at three o'clock, and the remains were interred in the family burying ground. Elder M. T. Lawrence conducted the services. HOLLY SPRINGS DEDICATION The Rev. T. A. Smoot, of Fayettcvllle, Preached a Pine Sermon Last Suuday evening at 3 o'clock the beautiful little church at Holly Springs was crowded to its utmost capacity. For sometime its mem bers liai bcca preparing for this occasion. The day was beautitul and nearly everyone for miles around was present. Rev. T. A» Smoot, of Fayette ville, preached an able and appro priate sermon dedicating for the worship of God, this house, an of fering of the people of this section. A handsome communion service, silver and gold-lined was present ed to the church by the Yarrell family. This is the second church that Rev. T. H. A Fine Comedian For the past week the residents of Willianiston have had the pleas ure of seeing and hearing the best "black face" comedian that hits ever been in town.
