Tbia fine weather is an ex
cellent time for street cleaning
The back lota in the bushiest
section need immediate at
attention. The health of those
who have to stay in the storet
demands thai something shoild
be done along this line Let*
have that done now while the
sun shines, so that there will
not be a great deal of sickliest*
later on.
It seems quite certain that
the passenger service asked for
in petitions to the Corpora
tion Commission sometime ago
is an assured fact. This mat
ter will be heard by the Com
mission next week when both
sides will be presented. If
sentiment can be aroused to
such a degree that people alonp
the line will demand that they
be treated fairly and impartial
ly, there will be 110 doubt.
Purties are pushing the
matter who say they will not
let up until some conclusion
is reached. The people and
taw«s should write letters to
the Commission making known
their interest and they should
do so without delay that it may
have its effect on the hearing

Martin County Teachers'
Association
The Teachers Association of
Martin County held its regular
meeting Saturday Oct. 20. Taking
into consideration the rain and
muddy roada a surprisngly large
number of teachers were present.
Several Well prepared papers were
read and able talk made bv members
on the program. There followed
lively discussions which showed an
unusual degree of interest teachers
are taking in matters vital to this
work. The writer thinks the paper
on the word method read by Miss
Mary Hodges, and the remarks cn
Reading by Miss Meta Liles deserve
special mention
Prof Everett of the Roberson
ville Graded School was present and
as usual was brimfull and running
over with enthusiasm. In a teachers
meeting Prof. Everett is the em
bodiment and execution of an entire
program within himself. No man
in the state is leading a hotter chase
upon the trail of illiteracy than Ev
erett of Robersotiville.
Prof. Ray of Hamilton Academy
in his pleasing manner interspersed
the proceedings with pertinent
questions. At each subsequent
meeting the members of the as-so
ciation will look around for the man
from 'higl er up the river.'
And then there was present to
cheer and to pray Supt. R. J. Peel
who both leads and follows every
interest looking to the welfare oi
the schools under his supervision.
We love thV faith and sincerity of
the man yfio we believe cariies
upon lift heart the life of every
child in Martin County.
Mr A. J. Manning gave some
valuable suggestions on bow to
teach multiplication table and frac
tions. Mr. Manning Is perhaps the
foremost mathematician in the
county.

Schnapps Tobacco is Mai* ENTIRELY from Flo* Cored
fgTrtacco Grown In the Piedmont Country.
The Imitation Brands Have Schnapps y
Quality Only On the Outside ,
Of the Plug
Hundreds of imitation brands are
on sale that look like Schnapps to
bacco. The outside of the imitation
plugs of tobacco is flue cured the same
as Schnapps, but the inside is filled
with cheap, flimsy, heavily sweetened
air cured tobacco. One chew of
Schnapps will satisfy tobacco hunger
longer than two chews of such to
bacco. The color, size and shape
of the tags, plugs and packages of
certain imitation brands of tobacco
have been made so much like
Schnapps that they have often been
accepted by buyers under the belief
that they were getting Schnapps.
Sufficient proof nas been secured
to establish the fact that certain
brands are infringements and in vio
lation of the trade mark laws, yet the
trade will continue to be imposed
upon by these infringers until the suit
already entered and now pending to
protect Schnapps is decided. A
great many of these imitations are

churned to be "just as good" as
Schnapps, but there is only one gen
uine Schnapps. Be sure the letters
on the tag, and stamped on the plug
under the tag spell S-C-H-N-A-P-P-S
and then you have it—the most
wholesome tobacco produced, with
just enough sweetening to preserve
the mild, juicy, stimulating quality of
the leaf tobacco. Expert tests prove
that this flue cured tobacco, grown
in the famous Piedmont region, re
quires and takes less sweetening than
any other and has a wholesome,
stimulating, satisfying effect on
chewers. .
If the tobacco you are chewing
don't satisfy you more than the mere
habit of exoectorating, stop fooling
„ yourself ana chew Schnapps tobacco.
Schnapps is like the tobacco chewers
formerly bought costing from 75c.
to SI.OO per pound; Schnapps is
sold at 50c. per pound, in sc. cuts,
strictly 10c. and 15c. plugs.
