Hobbs' home on the corner of Main and Ifaughtou streets has been painted and is now a most attractive residence. —Rev. C. L \*eai)r will leave Monday morning for Kinston where he goes to attend the annual Conference of the Methodists. —Thanksgiving Day services were held yesterday morning at the Methodist and Episcopal churches, and last night at the Baptist Church. —Biggs Drug Store has been much improved by a large show window. The window ha« been tastefully displayed with a fine line of stationery. —There have been no new de velopments in the "Hidden Treas ure'' matter. Will Morgan has l>een released from jail. The mat ter is likely to remain a mistery. Mr. J. I). I.eggett has moved into his new home on Smithwick Street and Mr. J. T. Fi»hel and family have moved into the house formerly occupied by Mr. I.eggett. —Mr. S. L Godard returned Tuesday evening from Benson. Where he had been to visit his daughter. Mr„_Codard reports that his son-in-law. Mr. J. I). Johnson is extremely ill. Mr. R A. Bailey of Roberson ville has purchased from Messrs. Anderson & Bro. a part of their farm for the purpose of making brick Bricks made from clay tak en fiom their land are said to be as fine as can be found anywhere. —There will be given in the near future at the Opera House a play entitled "Because I- Love you" by home talent. The young people taking part in the play are now re hearsing and making preperations for it. —Mr. S. S. Brown, one of Wil liamston most popular merchants, was called to Pinetown Tuesday to attend the funeral of his brother's wife. Mrs. K. B. Brown, who died Sunday night. Mrs. Brown leaves husband and four small children. —Mr. M. D. Lear superinten dent of Howell Davis Co.'s Clothes Pin Factory. Kain Pa., arrived Monday night to look up the ad vantages of our town, and the tim ber supply. These people use 10,000 feet of logs per day in mak ing clothes pins alone, and employ more than 50 hands. Mr. W. J. Francis has interested these people in our town by correspondence and we hope its advantages will be sufficient to cause them to move their plant here. The robbery occured some time last night. The safe was blown open and its contents taken. The robber, or robbers, took the horse and buggy of Dr. B. L. Long and made their escape. Just as we goto press we learn that Dr. Long has found his horse and buggy at Oak City. The amount of money taken has net yet been ascertained. p.-.. C., NOVEMBER 29, I*7 Officers Elected At a meeting of the stockholders of the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Co., held Monday night the follow ing officers were elected: J. G. Staton, president; J. R. Mobley, vice president, J. G. Godard, treasurer; Eli Gurganus, secretary and manager. The above named officers and Mr. Herbert Cowen constitutes the board of directors. The plant which lias l>een work ing for some weeks now, is in good shape and indications jioinl to a successful season. A Close Call t, „ Monday night about nine o'clock Mr. A. R. Mizell went borne from his place of business, on Washing ton Street,, suffering from mental depression, also,we are informed, a severe toothache. Not feeling aiiy better shortly after going he took a large dose of laudanum thinking it would put him to sleep, and he would thus sleep off the pain; not getting the relief expected, we are informed that he drank the remain der of an ounce bottle. The effect of this was almost instantaneous. His wife was present and realizing what he bad done phoned immedi ately for Drs. Warren & Rhodes who were soon at work on the un fortunate young man. Arriving as quickly as they did, the drug had not had time to absorb, and in an hour or two the patient was out of danger. Mr. Mizell is again out and at tending to his business.
