The eni'orial "Theodore Roose velt and The S«mth" in the News and Observer rf Tuesday was a perfect pen picture of the wily Colonel. We catinct believe that the men of the South will be bam boozled by this mountebank. Tj'.e Republican party is bad enough, but save us from Roosevelt. The election is one month off and wt:hin that time the result will be decided. The entire country will be thoroughly—canvassed. Roosevelt is making his plea before the South, but the South has heard of the nrglitv hunter before, and there is little use to say to her: 'Trust h'rn not, O gentle lady.*' He is in the advanced sfige of egotism and eauuot see the hand* writing on the wall. Care with Peanuts The greatest crop which Martin County produces is its peanut crop. The soil can and does grow the succulent nut to perfection and our fartnets many of them, are pioneers iu the growth of the nut. This year the crop is generally good, but not as great as that of last year. There were so many in some lands las: season that enen the hogs faile I to get them out. The time for harvesting is near at hand, and to insure the best re suits, the farmer should exercise every care in diggiug, stacking and picking One reason why some people never get the highest markei price for the crops produced bj them, is that they fail to give pto per care to the harvesting. It is poor farming to raise a good cro' f of anything and then let same bi improperly handled. This is verj true of tobacco. Many farmer: produce fite crops iu the field bu on the salesroom floor, thevpreseu a pooi appearance So with pea uuts Tbev may be of the fines quality and production, but care less handling w ill lessen their valui greatly. The weather has much do wi'h crop, but that has t "be met in 1 everything. Carefu handling and stacking will mak good stock foi* the picker. Am here comes a great difficulty. S many people neglect to properl cull the nuts even when picked b hand. When a machine is used great cart; should be taken to kee them clear of sticks, trash, etc. Clea nuts of good quality are nlway desired by the buyers. Some fai mers have a desire to rush to market, and so fail to give pn per care to their produts. Tb farmers of the county should deriv every benefit from the crops raise in this and in every succeedin year. V A Gill to Teachers The great majority of the school teachers of North Carolina, practi cally the entire body of teachers of the State, favor the election of Woodrow Wilson to the presidency.
