CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES The Christmas season always brings around the regular festivi ties of the Lotus Club—the or ganization which has and is mak ing for the higher standard of social Jife in the town and com munity. At this season, the ele gantly appointed rooms of the Club 'were open on the evening of the 29th. of December. The Club colors together with red berries, green boughs and Christ mas bells, gavfc the rooms a new er and more beautiful charm, which was enhanced greatly [by the elegfent costumes of the large number of guests crowding the reception room during the hours. The Washington Orches tra rendered pleasing and po pular selections throughout the evening. v The guests were received by Dr. J, H. Saunders, President of the Club, and Mrs. Saunders, who with the other officers gave every one a hearty greeting. Miss! Irene Smith with Mr. A. D. Mi-! zell and Miss Hannah Vic Fowden with Mr. Robert Everett served fruit punch to the guests. Misses Delha Lanier and Mildred Purvis conducted the guests from the cloak rooms to the reception room. Before the guests retired, a salad course, turkey, ice cream, cake and coffee were Jserved. v The evening marked the most success ful event in the life of the Club, and the most brilliant assemblage filled the rooms. For hours under the spell of en trancing music, the couples en gaged in pleasant figures And the more recent dances which are popular everywhere. The pleas ure of this ending of the series of Christmas festivities among the social set, was pronounced to be of a greater degree than any for merly had. The exquisite gowns of the women, who carried lovely owers, made a beautiful scene on the floor, as the men in even ing dress guided the steps of their partners through the different position. In the early hours of the morning, the dancers depart ed to homes where elegant lunch eons were served just before dawn. ~ * * For years past Mrs. A. R. Dunning in the regular order of \entertainment, has been hos tess to the Club at Christmas time; this year owing to the ad dition of new members her "at later in the Club year. Yet, on Tuesday after noon, December 23rd., she fol lowed her usual custom and from three to five entertained in honor of the Club, who deeply appre ciated this courtesy and hospital ity on her part. "Progressive Travel 11 ' was the game of the afternoon, and most heartily did all participate. The double parlors artistically decor ated with Christmas bells, holly and flowers, were thrown open, and five tables arranged therein. The score cards were large Poinsettas, typical of the Christ mas season, ahd the cards de claring the rules of the game were very appropriate, being pictures of men carrying suit cases and hurrying to catch the next aeroplane. As the game proceeded, delicious punch was served to quench the thirst of the travellers. At the close an ele gant salad course was served, followed by ice cream in suitcase form, and cake. The first prize, a Travelling Case, was awarded to Mrs. S. F. William J, the con solation, a drinking cup, to. Mrs. Morrison Bethea. Tuesday aftefnoon, December the 30th., in rooms with the add ed beauty of Christmas greens, bells expressive of the joy that was to come with the New Year, Mrs. Henry Crawford entertain ed the Km broidery Club in East Williamston. Besides the mem bers of the Club, several other ladies were there as honor guests. As it was at the festive season, little attention was to business and all entered into the enjoyment of "A Summer Picnic" the recital of which was found on attractice folders orna mented in two colors—red and green. After the blanks had been tilled, it was found that six contestants had tied for the score, and the prize was won in the draw by Miss Deborah Fleming. After the awarding of the prize, ham and turkey sandwiches Waldorf salad, pickles and salt ineg were served; this course was fallowed by ice cream bells with cakes. The dining room table was tastily decorated and the guests were served coffee there.
