Atwood Newell and fcmilv •to Louisburg. Franklin County. Mr. Newell came here immediately after obtaining li cense to practice law in Septem ber 1903. He received the A. B. «lfegree at Wake Forest in May of the sadie year. He associated him.ielf with his brother, the late Geo. VV. Newell, and upon the " death, of the latter assumed the entire practice of the firm. Sev eral years after malting his resi dence here, he wedded Miss Nell V. Simpson and purchased a com fortable home on Simmons Ave nue, where with the two interest itig children, they kept opefo k viso to their friends and neigh ■»d»rs. v ' / Mr. Newell is a native of Franklin County and has respond ed at last to "the call of the .Wood" to come back home. He will practice ' law there. Since coming to Williamston, he has slixjd for the material, social and religious uplift of the town and county. No enterprise has been started here that did not receive his hearty cooperation. He was secretary of the Chamber of Com merce and exerted every effort to ad vance the prosperity of the community. In the fight for civic righteousness, he was al ways found in the forefront, t He lias been superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School for years, and has done much to bring the school to its high standard. Mr. Newell has sold all hiss pro perty here and will build an at 'tractive residence in Louisburg. Friends in Williamston and in the county regret hia decision to Jlocate elsewhere, a valuable citizen is leaving for in the practice of law and in all business transactions, he has proven to be a man of the highest integrity and one who carefully looked after the interest of his clients. The good wishes of THE EN TERPRISE (to which he was al ways a friend) and a host - of friends go with him and his estimable family. There will be no services at the Episcopal Church tonight (Fri day) owing to the absence of the rector, who was called to Lewis ton on account of the death of a parishioner. On New Year Eve the Metho dist Church bell rang at every hour beginning with nine o'clock. At 10:30 the watch night services commenced and continued until the ringing of the bells proclaim ing the death of the Old and the birth of the New Year.
