C. So far as we know, this is the moat forward and progres sive step taken by aajr ffas&o concern in America. During the year when most farmers had fertilized very heavily and had to sell on a depress ed lots of farmers fell so far behind that they need some help, sure enough help to catch up again. And-the fertiliser companies are be ginning to realise that nearly all of their laes is caused either from delib erate failure to cultivate or the want of knowledge to properly cultivate. The Phillips Fertiliser company pro pose to cooperate with those farmers .who already owe them in a way that they will grow able to pay, and they want to so assist every user of their goods that they may be profitable far mers. , Mr. Holliday will help in every way to teach farmers the beet methods for the farmer*. Mr. Holliday was for several years county demonstrator and did much good work in the county. The difference in the production and saving to our farmers in the county caused by the teachings are many times more each year than waa his •alary. HADLOCK The contract for hard surfacing the Williamston-Bethel road was let on Thursday, February Ist to W. T. Had lock of Jacksonville, Fla. The dis tance is 19.31 miles and the total amount ot the bid was $483,900.40, winch is about $2.66 per yard. This bid was much below any other bids on this project. It is not known by us what kind of finish the road will nave, as yet. ESTABLISHED ISM v I LOW RECORDS IN THE HLHWAY BIDS LOW BIDS ON KOAD PROJECTS OVER TWO AND ONE HALF MILLIONS RALEIGH, Feb. 2.—Low bids re ceived by the State Highway commis sion yesterday for the construction of 19 projects of an aggregate mileage of miles of "gravel and hard ui !acei toads totalled $2,737,642.10, bunging the total mileage completed, . under construction or under contract to a little more than 2,>00 miles ami tiie total obligation of uie commission to contiaotors to approximately forty million dollars. More than 150 bidders were rep | resented among the contestants lor the 19 jobs that were ottered yester day. Ihe first district figured largely in the letting yesterday with a total of 71-08 nules listed in its four projects, , two ol them of unusual length and loi hard surfaced construction that swelled the total prospective awards |in that district to $1,113,881.70. En gineering considerations have delayed ' lettings in tiiat district. Few local' ltives have -sand sub-grades that could stand hard surface*! construction. The largest single project includ ed in ti.e letting yesterday was the Williamstou-liethel road, reaching westward fro uithe great Wdliamston bridge to Bethel in Pitt county, con necting there with the modern roads leading to Greenville to the south and 'l'arboro on the west and thence to ward Raleigh. Mrs. Harrison is one of the most attractive and popular young girls of her community and Mr. Harrison, who has been with the firm of C. L>. Car starphen and company, has many friends here and throughout the coun ty- They will return from a trip to northern cities tomorrow ami will be ut home on upper Maui street in the house formerly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. C.
