Address all communications to The Enterprise ONE STATE BUREAU THAT 18 WELL WORTH ITS COST Of all the departments of our State non (ivet out more value in propor tion to its coat than the department of public health. The State Board of Health does not call for large expenditures, yet it serves our nearly three million peo ple in the State in a large way. Our general conception of the doc tor is a fellow we need when we get sick. But that is not as important as the work he does in keeping us from getting sick. Our health department, of course, is on hand to combat epi demics and strange diseases of all kinds. Yet the work it does in pre venting disease is the best work it does. Wc may fail to appreciate this feature of usefulness, because it takes some degree of thinking and appre ciation to draw thj! line between a malady we escape and one of which we must be cured. The simple rules of health given the people in the health bulletins of our own State Board of Health, if ob served in a reasonable way, will save half of the doctor's bills and half of the suffering by sickness in the next generation. We too often fail to embrace the op portunities that knock at our doore until they pass by.' MARRIAGE Prof. David Seabury, of New York, has just come out with some "wide range" facts on the old but always interesting subject of marriage. Of course, his information may be per fectly true; if it is, then he is wiser than anybody else has ever been. Yet some of his statements sound quite as radical as any yet advanced. He says "Made in Heaven" mar riages are absurd. Yet he says that God is love and what God hath joined together let no man put asunder. He further says the promise of the contracting parties to love forever is just a silly promise, and it is impos sible for two persons to majpe such a promise because love is not of the will, hence it is biologically psycho logically impossible. The wise professor says there are seven kinds of love, which he classi February Furniture Sale DON'T MISS THIS GREAT SALE DONT MISS THIS GREAT SALE THIS GREAT REDUCTION SALE - Will positively close on Saturday, Feb. 27. C. fies as "mate love," which he says is the highest form, making two people happy together. Then he says there iB partnership love. Here the desire is to build a home and have children. . The third given is romantic love, which is of the Romeo and Juliet type and which flies with the romance. Emotional love is described as mag netic unity, like the devotion of the dog for its master. Then, he says, sex love is inade quate in itself but very necessary as a supplement to other forms. The sixth form of love he calls pro pinquity, caused by mutual surround ings and experiences, which control it. The last and seventh grade of love he calls frigid love, which is marry ing for nothing more than the lunch busket, the search for security and protection. Too many modern mar riages are said to be based on this. Much hope may be gleaned from the professor's deductions of love. While he says that only 10 per cent of the marriages are happy at the present time, but some day happy marriages and real love are coming back in style; that in ten thousand years from now 80 to 90 per cent will be happy. The wise professor crosses his own path just about this point, because he has already said God is love. Now hp says "Love is a force of attraction based upon laws as definite as grav ity." Regardless of how we view the question of success or failure of mar riage, it is certainly God's plan to per petuate His spirit and power in the world. And with the multitude of failures of marriage the science of man can not outline anything that will take its place in human society. If there be seven types of love, we should not look at any of them light ly but with sober thought.
