Crowds Spend Time At Pamlico Beach The largest crowd in the history of Pamlico Beach spent the week end and the Fourth of that popular re sort, where the steady breezes from the waters of Pamlico sound afford a sure relief from the oppressive sum mer heat. Pamlico beach hotel was over-run early Saturday night, and during the week end many visitors sj.ent the nights in automobiles and ir. the pavilion. Many visitors came from distant points in the state and were unan imously of the opinion that from the standpoint of bathing, fishing, and coolness, Pamlico beach was the peer of all the beaches. The beach rises a bout 40 feet from the water's edge, and is generouly sprinkled with shade trees on all sides, land is fanned with a "constant breeze from the ocean which makes it delightful both dur ing the day and night. The bathing is in salt water, with a perfect sand bottom which is free from sea-weeds. The Pamlico beach hotel is becom ing famous for the excellence of the dining room service, and many of the guests have remained over for the next several days. The thirty-odd cottages on the beach are fast fillling Up with the summer colony, and by the end of the week a population of at least three hundred will claim Pamlico as its summer home.' - The roads have been placed in ex cellent shape, and it is less than an hour's drive from the end of the pave ment at Bath. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Peel of Rel eigli were here for the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Martha I'e'el, Thurs day. MEDIUM SIZE IKON SAFE FOR Sale.— Harrison Oil company. W. B. DANIEL and WIFE. Tragedy Occurs At Wooten Family Reunion Hillcrest, a resort near Kinston, was the scene of a family reunion and a tragedy on last Wednesday. It was the annual reunion of the Wooten fam ily, and members of that prominent family gathered from all over North Carolina and from as far away as Georgia, to participate in the reunion and renew friendships. There were about 300 in attendance and Judge Frank Wooten, of Green ville was selected president. He had just started his speech of acceptance when he was informed that his son iiad been drowned. He was only aix years of age. Reports were to the tffect that the lad fell into the lake and disappeared beneath the surface. The body of the lad was brought to the surface in a few minutes by a life Kuard but all efforts at resusci tation were futile. Most Cotton States Increase Acreage - Cotton seems to be king in the minds of the farmers of the South. In the fifteen leading cotton states, two thirds of them have increased the acreage over that of last year. Only two of the big cotton states, Texas and Oklahoma, have cut the acreage. Texas decreased its acreage one per cent while Oklahoma decreased hers two and two-thirds per cent. North Carolina has increased one •per cent in acreage, but it was re ported as the third lowest of all the cotton growing states. On June 26, the condition was standing as 63 1 per cent of normal. Virginia was 62 and South Carolina 65, being the lowest of all states^ Mr. Julius £. Peel attended the North Carolina Bar Association meet ing at Wrightsville last week. THE ENTERPRISE—WIhLIAMSTON, N. C With the same production per acre that we had last year, the increase in acreage will run the yield up 200,000 bales above the 1925 yield which was a large one. The crop condition for the entire belt is, 75.4 of a full crop.
