In * well received game here last
Friday night Williamston won over
the Farm Life boys by a score of IS

inferior basketball, were sincere in
their efforts, and the game was more
than enjoyed.

Hearings Friday on
Bertie County Bills
Several bills relating to Bertie j
County will be heard before the prop
er committees of the legislature next
Friday, the bills having been intro
duced by Judge Francis D. Winston.
The asked-for legislation is of one
main purpose, to put the business of
that county on a business basis. Judge
Winston in introducing these bills
states that they do not reflect upon
the present officers of the county in
the manner in which they are con.
ducting the business of the county.
To quote Judge Winston, "In my opin
ion we have simply arrived at the
time when the affairs of Bertie Coun
ty should be put upon a business ba
sis, and these bills have that object
in view and no other. That now ap
plies to most of the counties and are
not peculiar in any way to Bertie
County."
The bills have to do with the regu -
lation of the settlements with the
sheriff of the county; with providing
for an audit of all county offices han
dling county funds, either collecting
or paying out; with providing for a
budget system for the county; and
with reducing the county road ex
pense. ..
