"JOY BK WITH YOU"
My daar old "Mammy Sue" always
greeted us with "Joy be with you,
Honey." Coming from her in a sol
emn tone, it seemed to us a prayer.
"Joy be with you" was the blessing
she conferred on yau when leaving,
young and old alike.
So, in loving memory of Susanna,
our "Mammy Sue," I say, "Joy be
with you." I wish for you the joy of
many friends; the joy of loving and
keeping your mind free of petty per
sonal differences; the joy of good
health and enough wealth for com
fort.
Where life is hard, it is also good,
for through the mastery of its very
hardness, when sought, is found in-
ternal strength.
Therefore, friends, may "Joy be
with you," throughout the coming
year.
For the "Happy New Year" party
on New Year's Eve, which- iff some
times called a "Watch Party," and
held from 10:30 until —, you might
well serve a buffet supper, consisting
of a salad, toasted sandwiches, cookies
hot tea, or coffee or cocoa; you might
have hot crispy waffles with J>**ur
favorite syrup or preserves, tiny smok
ed sausages, ham and scrambled eggs;
coffee.

'need for North Carolina to retire 900,-
000 acres from cultivation in 1934 ind
limit the crop to lest than 450,000
acres. The AAA has set ont to raise
cotton prices by cutting down the
overburdening surplus. To this end,
I farmers of the nation have been ask
ed to limit .their crop to 25,000,000
acres, a reduction of 40 percent under
the average for the five-year period
> from 1928 through 1932.
j Growers who sign reduction con

ifcalculated at the rate of tliree and
one-half cents a pound on ths average
production of those acres daring the
1928-32 period, with a provision that
not more than $lB an acre shall be

The parity payments will be at least
one cent a pound on next year's cot

parity payments if necessary to make
up the difference. ,
