A. Ward at the home of Mrs. Ward in Robersonville. Fourteen members were present for this meet ing. The meeting was opened with the singing of America, accompanied by Miss Eva I. Peel at the piano. The chaplain read the first Psalm and at the end of the prayer, everyone stood thirty secondiTn silence in memory of the World War dead. The pream ble was .repeated in unison. The secretary read the minutes of May and June and these were ap proved as read. Mrs. W. E. Old, Williamston P. T. A. treasurer, thanked the auxiliary through Mrs. Goodmon for money donated each school month for un derprivileged children The highlight of the meeting came when trophy and award chairman, Mrs. J. H. Ayers, presented a beau tiful naval print plate offered to any unit president by Mrs. H. L. Swain, | first area chairman, and won by Mrs. J R. Winslow for the most outstand ing child welfare work in the fourth district. Mrs. Winslow graciously thanked Mrs. Swain and the auxil [ lary for cooperation given, making it possible for her to win this beau tiful trophy. MISSIONARY SOCIETY CIRCLES HOLD MEETING Mesdames W M. Baker, Frank Weston and Bob-^Corver were joint hostesses to circles one and two of the Methodist Missionary society on Tucsduy afternoon at the liume of Mrs. Baker on Marshall Avenue. Mrs. Carver, presiding over the meeting read an interesting article wurk and was followed by Mrs. Clyde Manning who led in prayer. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by the twenty one members present. The hostesses, assisted by Mrs. Jack Daniels, served delicious ba nana splits topped with miniature American flags, arranged artistical ly on plates which carried out the patriotic spirit relative to the Fourth of July, to the following guests: Mesdames J. E. Boykin, W H. Booker, Clyde Manning, H. Spruill, J. W. Watts, J. D. Mason, J. C. An derson, Collins Peel, Jimmie Tay lor, S. A. Maxwell, L. H. Swain, L. H. Harrison, Jimmie Harrison, Jr., Tom Brandon and J. Dixon, and Misses Martha Leggett and Pat Crawford. HARDENS There will be an ice cream sup per tonight at Corinth church. The Free Will Baptist orphanage will be at Corinth Monday night. Sunday school will meet at the usual hour and there will be preach ing at 11 o'clock and at 8 o'clock at the Christian church. The interde nominational Young People's Meet ing will be at four o'clock Sunday. Everyone is invited to attend all the services. Misses Ruth Simpson, Ida Blanche Stalls and Messrs. Joe Holliday, Earl Ange attended the Christian Endea vor Council meeting at Sweet Home last Friday. Miss Allie Harden, of Roborson ville spent Tuesday at home. Mr. and Mrs. Gray Simpson gave a barbecue dinner Tuesday. Many of their friends were present. Mr. Liedwell Gregory, of the CCC camps, spent the holidays at home. Mr. Mack Everett, of Raleigh, vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Lcxter Everett on Monday. Miss Mavis Delainey, of California is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Hol liday, her grandparents. ENTERTAIN WITH BARBECUE Mr. and Mrs. Will Taylor gracious ly entertained about seventy-five relatives and friends at their lovely country home on the Washington Highway, near here, last Tuesday evening. Delicious barbecue, bruns wick stew and slaw were served in liberal quantities, Mr. and Mrs. Tay lor having conveniently arranged picnic tables in the yard under tail oak trees. Special guests were present from Richmond and Raleigh. FAMILY REUNION The brothers and sisters of Mrs. Frank Gurganus held a reunion at her home on Sunday, July 2. Dinner was spread on a table in the yard. About fifty people were served. The brothers and sisters present were: Mrs. Sam Merritt, Mrs. Joe Whitaker, Mrs. Willie Crisp, Mrs. Sam Ward and Mr. Howell Warren. Visiting in New Bern Miss Margaret Ange, of Jamesville is spending a few days in New Bern with friends. MRS. BUNTING IS HONORED AT BRIDGE Mr*, r F. Pollard entertained with 12 tablet of bridge Friday evening in honor of her sister, who prior to her marriage was Mias Lela Brown Barnhill. The hostess greeted the guests at the door and presented them to the honoree. A lovely shoulder corsage of red roses and valley lilies and fern was given the honoree by the hos tess. The two living rooms, hall and din ing room were thrown ensuite and were lovely with gladioli, snapdrag ons, shasta daisies and verbena. Punch was served during the sec ond progression by the hostess, as sisted by Mrs. Clayton Carson and Mrs. A. P. Barnhill, of Everett*. At the end of the fourth progres sion Mrs. Will Mayo was awarded hose for high score prize, Mrs. W. H. Coburn, of Williamston, captur ed the floating prize, and Mrs. Jul ian Smith was given a pitcher for consolation. The honoree was pre sented crystal compotes in her pat tern. The hostess served delicious ice cream, cake and salted nuts. Out-of-town guests were Mes dames Garland Barnhill, Leman Barnhill, V. J. Spivey, W. H. Coburn, Daisy Purvis, Misses Estelle Craw ford, and Josephine Harrison, of Williamston; Mesdames A. P. Barn hill, J. W. Cox announce the marriage of their daughter, Fran ces, to Mr. Bennie Griffin, on Sun day, July 2, 1939, at Suffolk, Va. Mrs. Griffin is a graduate of the Williamston High School, and is pop ularly known throughout the state. She wore for her wedding a be coming white street dress with matching accessories. Mr. Griffin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Griffin, of Robersonville and is a graduate of the Roberson ville High School. He is employed by the Martin County Transfer Com pany in his native city. The young couple spent their hon eymoon at Virginia Beach and are now at home with the groom's par ents in Robersonville. Visiting Relatives Here Mrs. H. C.
