HONORED Benjamin E Manning, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Manning, was among the 151 men at Duke Univer sity who made the honor roll, accord ing to the information released this week from the dean's office. Ben is a senior at the Durham school and now has the privilege of voluntary attendance for the spring semester. Legion Auxiliary Holds Meet Saturday Afternwm Last Saturday afternoon seven girls of the Bear Grass school, pre sented in the Legion Hut an Easter program. "The Cross." sponsored by the auxiliary. A chorus, "Voices in the Woods," was the first number. Next was a solo by Jean Bowen and a pageant. The Cross, made up of the following. Love, Friendship, Faith. Honesty, Courage. Helpfulness and Truth, each number accompanied by Miss Doris Jenkins at the piano. The entire pro gram brought to our minds the ap proaching Easter season and the aux iliary sincerely thanks those who were responsible for its presentation. A donation was brought in by the Bear Grass group. Our regular business was opened with the preamble and the Lord's Prayer. Minutes were approved as read. The treasurer made a good report. Hie membership chairman re ported our quota reached for the year One new member was brought in at this meeting The child welfare chairman re ported two families contacted dur ing the month. The officeis weie aSKea to keep in mind the post officers convention in Rocky Mount March 10-11. A lovely floor lamp was present-1 ed the auxiliary in honor of our birthday by the Virginia Electric and Power Co. The auxiliary was de lightfully surprised also by having a huge fruit cake with twenty-one candles, cut and served. In the near future the auxiliary is sponsoring through Rev. Z. T. Piep hoff, a moving picture. Black Beau ty, to be shown throughout Martin County to the school children. A flag code has been ordered for each school in Martin County, both ' white and colored. The local school was represented by Mary Alice Burch, Eloise Wood, Spencer Wynne, Aurelia Jones, Mary Faul kand Mary Sabre Slade. Reports state that each of the debaters was a credit to the local school.
