Here Saturday Afternoon The American Legion Auxiliary met Saturday afternoon, April 0, with twelve member* present. Mr*. J. R. W in slow, child welfare ; chairman. had charge of the program j for the day. She introduced Dr. J. W. j Williams, local health officer, who gave a splendid talk on Personal Hy-i giene and Sanitation. His remarks were well received and he offered several suggestions in which differ-, ent organizations can cooperate with the health office. Mrs. Goodmon ask ed. in the name of our auxiliary, that j if any veterans' children are report ed to the health office, our auxiliary will offer any aid possible. Mrs. Winslow gave a short talk on unit child welfare work and thank ed the auxiliary for our cooperation.. Mrs. Goodmon reported on the ( post officers convention held recent-1 ly in Rocky Mount. She also gave a report on rehabilitation. Mrs H. L. Swain gave a report on ! State Child Welfare work and asked , that all units send their reports, monthly to headquarters Mrs. Wal ter S. Craven, state child welfare chairman, stated that North Carolina had one of the best set-qps in any | state. Mrs. Craven is a candidate for I state presidetn for 1940-41. The business meeting was opened with the reading of the minutes, which were approved as read. The treasurer gave her report, all I obligations have been met. The time of the auxiliary meeting* i has been changed to the second Mon I day night in each month. The following were appointed on : the nominating committee: Mes i dames John A. Ward, W O. Griffin and J H. Ayers. The auxiliary through Rev. Z. T. Piephoff furnished a film. "Black i Beauty", which has been shown to 3500 people in Martin County. The majority of this number are children of school age. Rev. Piephoff is to be commended in showing these films throughout the county. We are glad to have even a small share in thisj priject. The auxiliary is to sponsor Girls State and to pay $12.50 for same. This concluded our business and we adjourned, to meet in the auxil-1 narf room the second Jdonday night; in May. 1 Junior* Entertain At Banquet Friday Nifglit Local high school juniors enter tained the 33 members of the senior class in the Woman's Club hall here last Friday evening, the event cli maxing the school's social calendar for the term. The Mexican motif, ad vanced in the festive and colorful decorations, made an attractive set ting and added to the spirit of the banquet. Billy Mercer, ably handling the task of toastmaster, introduced the speakers and headlined the an nouncements. Appropriate spe&hes, heard from several quarters, were enjoyed along with an entertainment program featuring the Gurganus Brothers and their string band. Ben hie Godwin's lusty voice was an added feature in the entertainment program. Following the sumptuous meal, dancing was enjoyed by the group for a couple of hours. Master Bobby Manning and little Miss Lee Handy acted as mascots for the seniors and juniors respectively. Woman9* Cluh B ill Hold Meet Wednesday, April 10 The regular monthly meeting of the Williamston Woman's Club will be held Wednesday afternoon, April 10, at 3:30 o'clock, in the club rooms. The program committee has arrang ed to have Rev. Z. T. Piephoff pre sent a very interesting movie of an educational as well as entertaining nature. Recovering from Operation Mrs. Herbert Lassiter, of James ville, is recovering from an opera tion performed in a Washington hos pital yesterday. Local Firm Sponsort Free Movie Monday Night ? On Monday night, April 19th, the Williamston Supply Company is sponsoring a free movie on Johns Manviile insulating board products which should be of interest to all home owners, prospective home own ers, contractors and builders. This movie will be shown in the agricul tural building at 8 o'clock and Mr. Whitley extends an invitation to ev eryone to attend.
