Payne, of Stockton, Md., became the bride of James Octavius Manning, Jr . son of Mr. and Mrs. J O. Man ning, of Witltamslon, in a quiet cer emony at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church, of Pocomoke City, Md., on June 25, at 4 o'clock. The Rev. James A. Ditto officiated, us ing the ring ceremony. The bride was uttired in a love ly dress of pink imported lace, with which she wore u large Leghorn hat and matching accessories. Her only ornament was a gold necklace, a gift of the groom. Her corsage was of Talisman roses. The bride and groom were unat Mrs. Manning is formerly of Au lander. She received her education in the Aulander high school, where she was quite popular among the younger set. Mr. Manning attended the Wil liamston High School where he was an outstanding athlete. He is now actively engaged in business with the Standard Oil Company in Wll liamston. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs Manning left for un announced points. After June 28 they will be at home in their apart ment here on Simmons Avenue. Out of town guests included: Mr. and Mrs J. o. Manning. Mrs. James "B. Young People'* League Entertained Last Week The Young People* league of Roberson's Chapel Presbyterian Church was delightfully entertain- ' ed at a church social given by the Young Peoples League of Mayo's Chapel, near Bethel, Friday night.1 June 21, at 8:30 Arriving in cars the young people went directly to the lawn of the church, where Rev J. Norton Din- j dey was in charge of the Mayo's Cha- j pel group and Miss Ruby Wynne was in charge of the Roberson Chapel group. A skit, headed by Maybelle Wilson, of Mayo's Chapel, was giv en followed by two readings by Ruby Wynne A skit was then given by Raymond Rawls and Guy Raw Is, Jr., famous end men of Roberson Chapel. During the refreshment hour ice cream and cake were served to the young peopl by Mrs. Walkr, of Ma yo's Chapel The social came to a close after reports were given from each league. The cars and truck left the Church at two o'clock and reached the beach about 3:30. Around a hundred mem- \ bers of the school and friends en joyed swimming, horseshoe pitching and other games until time for sup per. This part of the picnic proved most interesting along with the su perior quality of lemonade prepared by the men under the able direction of Landy Griffin. The most humorous part of the I outing was occasioned when the \ preacher in his haste to bring his pro vender to the long tables, let his box fall to the ground and its contents liberally spread on the sand. For tunately for the preacher's family there rested between the food and the sand a tablecloth that his wife had spread on the top of the box.
