Many Attend Special Services At Colored Church Here Sunday Interesting Proprmm Was En joyed On Seeond An nual Teachers Day Sunday. November 17. 1940. was a very important and interesting day at the Mount Shiloh Colored Bap tist Church. It was the second an nual Teachers' Day and was attend ed by all the teachers of the Negro race in the county. I At 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning, the church school was held with N W Slade. of the Robersonville schools, acting as superintendent. All official and teaching positions were turned over to the teachers of the county schools. Following the Sunday school, R. G. Gaither deliv ered a special address. Other talks were made by Don Chance. J. A. Holley, Ruth Downing. Rebecca Ev erett and Fannie Slade. Rev. L. T. Bond, pastor of the church, delivered the regular 11 o'clock sermon. He was followed by A ary Gray, supervisor of the Mar W i County Negro schools. At 2:30 p. m.. Rev. J. A. S. Cole, pastor of the Williamston Chapel Zion Church, apoke on. "Build on the Solid Rock." The final service of the day began at 7:30 p. m., in what was said to be a fitting climax to the second annual teachers' day. Music was furnished by two groups of singers, both being composed of members of the WPA organization of Williamston. The principal addresses of the evening were made by E: S. Peel, local attor ney, and J. C. Manning, county sup | onntendent of schools. The address of Mr. Peel definitely appealed to the spiritual as well as the civic in his discourse to the teach ers.
