Record Crowd Expected To Witness Swede-Martin Clash Locals Ready For Engagement With "Swedes" Monday Night High School Gym To Be Comfortable For Season's Big Event "(kmnlry" Martini* May Shou [ "City Slickers" A Feu Court Trick* Whcn the Flying Swedes pull in for their exhibition with the Wil liamston Martins here next Monday night at eight o'clock, they may ex pect the local team to be just an other "hick" team in a country town, but in the opinion of many fans of this section, that traveling group uf Swedes is in for a lot of trouble. An ticipating a record crowd, the Mar- j tin management has announced that every arrangement is being made for the comfort of the fans Many may not realize the fact, but basketball as played in William ston Is of a much higher calibre than , ihpi in of the larger ethics as every traveling team voices the ( opinion that the Martins rank high among the hundreds of teams they play each season. And with the ad vent of higher class court games, came the increased interest in the game, bringing out many sports fans who have taken an enthusiastic in terest in their "country" team But Monday night marks the first big exhibition of the 1941 season and with the ever-present fancy and ac curate shooting of the traveling Swedes, the locals realize they will have their hands full, and already have played several games this sea son in preparation for this clash. Ac cording to reports, the Martins will be at their top strength and ready to offer a good account of them selves. The fancy dribbling and deceptive passing of Pap Diem is a big weapon in the Martin offense, while Breezy Beaird, fast breaking guard, and VULL PLA> I1KRK One of the outstanding Flying Swedes, a brother and sister bas ketball team, which will op pose the Williamston Martins in the local high school gym on Monday night, is Harold, above, who stands 5 feet 11 inches tall. Harold plays guard and his blaz ing and accurate passing makes the Swedes one of the best court teams touring the country today. Desperately trailing bv a 0-4 score at half-time, the Ea gles rallied during the last period to come within one point of tying the winners with only one minute to go, but a bad pass resulted in Washington's recovery and they im mediately scored a crip shot to clinch the victory The locals displayed erratic marks manship. hut should improve as the season progresses, though numer ous shots rimmed the hoop and fell off the non-pay way. The winners used two full teams in downing the none-too-fresh locals Scoring honors for the Eagles wont to Speedy Bob Cowen, with 8 points, followed by Skinny Skinner with four.
