(,194m Retiring Pastor By PALL BAIUl Everett* i* a small town in Mar tin County and the Bap list church there is not a large one. however, it has big ideas and knows how to do things for its pastor without his knowledge Rev E. C. Shoe, who has been call ed to the western part of North Car olina. has resigned his pastorates at Robersonville, Everett* and Hamil ton, which he has held for the past nine years. On Sunday. April dth, he held his last service at the Everett* church after which the member* gave him a surprise picnic dinner that was served on the church grounds. A farewell service was then conducted by the laymen of the church with many friends through out the county attended. Mr. Paul Bailey, deacon of the church and the leading spirit in the planning of the day's program, pre sided. Mr. Bailey told of the love the people had for Mr Shoe and how they appreciated his life among them, his simple faith in God and above all. his Christian character. Mrs. Willie Peel, the oldest member of the church both in years and services, then told the congregation how much Mr. Shoe had meant to her as an individual and the church as a body. Brief remarks were made by Mr. Sam Ward, of Robersonville; Mr. W J Beach, of Hamilton; Messrs. B S. Courtney and J Sam Getsin ger. of Williamston. Mrs. J. II Smith, of Williamston, rendered a solo dur ing the service Rev. J. H. Smith, pastor of the Williamston Memorial Baptist Church and former pastor of the Ev eretts church, concluded the serv ice with the thought that Mr. Shoe was not leaving this community en tirely as his influence for good would remain in Martin County In Norfolk Saturday Mrs. W K.
