Home | Service Director, Virginia Electric | And Fewer Company THIRST QUENCHERS AND THROAT COOLERS About this time of the year we start thinking about cold drinks, frozen salads and desserts. Here are a few which I am sure you will en joy the whole summer through. Tall glasses of cherry cola tinkle refreshingly as this next to no work tray makes its entrance. Here's how to make this summer drink. Cherry Cola To 1 bottle chilled cola beverage add 2 tablespoons maraschino cher ry sirup Pour over 3 cherry ice cubes in tall glases. Stir gently. Cherry Ice Cubes Place 1 maraschino cherry in each section of freezing tray of automa tic refrigerator. Fill with water. Freeze. Lime Julep 3 sprigs mint. Crushed ice. 1 lime, juice. 1-2 t angostuea bitters Carbonated water. 2-3 T. sugar sirup Crush mint in tall glass Fill glass 1-3 full with crushed ice. Strain lime juice; add bitters ;pour into glass. Fill with carbonated water. Add su gar sirup to taste; stir gently Serves one. Boil equal quantities sugar and water 5 minutes Store in covered jar in refrigerator. Use to sweeten cold drinks. Concord Punch 1-4 c powdered sugar 1-4 c water 2 lemons, juice 2 oranges, juice 1-2 c tea infushion 1 c grape juice 1 -2 c crushed pineapple 2 1-2 c ice water Combine powdered sugar and 1-4 c water. Strain orange and lemon juice; add with tea infushion and grape juice to mixed sugar and wa ter Stir until sugar dissolves. Add crushed pineapple. Chill 1 hour. Add ice water. Serves 8 Fruits frozen in their cans make a summer salad platter that couldn't possibly be prettier. And see how simple the whole thing is. Arctic Circle Salad Remove labels from cans of sliced pineapple, sliced peaches, apricot halves, fruit cocktail and sour red cherries. Dip cans in cold water; stand upright in freezing compart ment of automatic refrigerator. Turn cold control low. Freeze overnight. Open cans at both ends; press out contents; slice (except cherries which should be broken with fork.) Frozen Tuna Salad 1 6-oz. can (1 cup) tuna, grated style 1 c condensed tomato soup 1 t.. lemon juice Few grains cayenne 1-3 c pickle relish Watercress Mayonnaise or salad dressing Combine tuna, soup, lemon juice, Cayenne and pickle relish. Pour into individual molds. Set in freezing :ompartment of automatic refrigera tor; freeze until firm. Unmold on wa tercress. Garnish with mayonnaise or salad dressing. Serves 4. Tantalizing Lemon Sherbet 1 1-4 c sugar 1 pt milk 1-4 c lemon juice I <'gg whites Few grains salt Combine lemon juice and sugar. Gradually add milk to prevent curdl ing Pour in freezing tray of automa tic refrigerator and freeze to a mushy consistency. Remove from tray and pour into bowl which has been chilled. Beat egg whites until stiff to which salt has been added. Combine two mixtures and return to freezing chamber and continue freezing Cavenaugh ? Roberton Wedding This Morning ? 4 Mia Huldah Irene Roberson and Colon Dewey Cavenaugh were mar ried in a quiet ceremony this morn ing at 9 o'clock at the home of Mr. end Mrs. Maurice S. Moore, on Sim mons Avenue, with Rev. James H. Smith officiating. On each end of the mantel were lighted candles in silver holders with an attractive bowl of white double larkspur in the center. Three baskets flanked the mantel filled with baby's breath, fever few and fern. * Mrs. Cavenaugh, daughter of Mrs. Daisy Roberson and the late John Henry Roberson, of Roberaonville, wore for her wedding a becoming seafoam suit with hat and bag of matching material with other acces sories of brown and white. Her shoul der corsage was of orchids and step hanolis. She is a graduate of the Robersonville High School and is employed by the Williamston Motor Company. The bridegroom, son of Mr. George. 4 E. Cavenaugh and the late Mrs. Cav enaugh, of Jacksonville, N. C., at tended the schools there and the University of North Carolina. He is associated with the local highway radio station. Following a wedding trip to the western part of the State Mr. and Mrs. Cavenaugh will be at home in J an apartment with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Moore.
