My dear Sheriff Meekins:
I am in receipt of your inquiry, which I was very glad to re
ceive, about my colleague and personal friend, Congressman
Herbert Bonner. I am pleased to answer the same.
I have known Congressman Bonner since I have been a
Member of Congress, during which period he served as secre
tary to his predecessor in office, my very close friend, Honor
able Lindsay Warren, whom I consider to be one of the most
outstanding men I have ever met. His loyalty and devotion to
Lindsay Warren may him one of the most outstanding secretar
ies in Washington, equipped him in an admirable manner to
succeed Lindsay Warren, when General Warren retired from
Congress.
His service in the Congress of the" United States has been
able and constructive. He has been one of the most loyal sup
porters in the National House of Representatives of our belov
ed and courageous President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I can
assure you of this fact because as Majority Leader it was my
duty to see that the important legislation relating to the secur
ity of oqr nation, which the President recommended from time
to time, and particularly before December 7th, was enacted in
to law. Speaker Rayburn and I never had any doubt about the
position of Congressman Bonner. We could always rely on him.
He never failed us on any occasion.
In addition to considering Congressman Bonner as one of
my closest, personal friends, whose friendship I greatly value,
I consider him to be one of the most reliable, one of the sound
est and one of the most dependable Members of the National
House of Representatives. I might also say, and this means a
great deal in Congress, that he is one of the best liked Members
of the House. I cannot impress upon you too strongly how much
this means to a Member in obtaining benefits for his district
and his people, to which he feels they are entitled, because it
means the assistance of Members from other parts of the coun
try in his fforts.
During these trying days, when the preservation of our na
tion Is at stake, the country needs in the National House of Rep
resentatives, men of vision, men of courage, men of loyalty and
men of devotion, like Congressman Bonner. Our beloved Pres
ident needs in Congress men like Congressman Bonner, who
have loyally supported him, without which support President
Roosevelt would not have been able to have prepared our coun
try to the extent that he had when the vicious attack was made
upon us at Pearl Harbor.
With kind personal regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Signed) JOHN W. McCORMACK
Majority Leader.

Elder A. B. Ayers,
R. P. D.
Williamston, North Carolina.
Dear Brother Ayers:
I have your letter asking me in my opinion if Congressman
Herbert Bonner has measured up since he hus been a Member
of the House of Representatives.
As you know, Herbert Bonner was the secretary and right
hand man of Lindsay Warren for several years here, in which
he learned the ins and outs of all the Government Departments
and Congressional duties. Since Mr. Bonner became a member
of the House, he has so proved his ability, patriotism and knowl
edge that he is one of the outstanding new Members of the.
House and is personally popular with the membership.
Any Member of Congress who is industrious and intelligent
becomes more effective and more useful not only to his coun
try but to his immediate constituents the longer he is a Member.
Sincerely yours,
(Signed) SAM RAYBURN.

The Nation, State and District Need
HERBERT BONNER
They need his valuable experience, his loyal devotion, his line ability, his
influence and the friends he has made. It would lake another man 10 years
to attain the rank he now has in Congress. An over-seas Veteran of the f irst
World War, he knows what WAR is. He went in as a Private and came out
as a Sergeant.
The whole sorry and vicious campaign that has been made against him has
been one of attack by Candidate Blount. The people of the FIRST DIS
TRICT love a fair fight ami a fair deal. They despise short cuts and un
derhand methods and they will show their feelings at the polls on May .'ill.
Vast sums of money ivill be spent to defeat Congressman Bonner up until the last minute, but the people of the
First District can neither be threatened nor intimidated. The secret ballot is their safeguard and they will go to
the ballot box and vote for BONNER?The Man They Want!
The Office of Congressman from the 1st District Can Never Be Bought
IT IS NOT FOR SALE
