ter, Susie Evelyn Griffin, to Louis
Robert Herring, son of the late Mr.

Mount. The ceremony took place on
Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in
the home of Mrs. Margaret Hatton
at Norfolk, with the Rev. L. C.
Smart, pastor of the Methodist
Church, officiating. Only the im
mediate families and a few intimate
friends were present for the cere
mony. The bride, wearing a corsage
of gardenias, was attired in an af
ternoon dress of blue crepe with ac
cessories to match. Her only attend
ant was her aunt, Mrs. Margaret
Hatton, of Norfolk.
Leon Grimes, of Troy, friend of
the groom, was best man.
Immediately following the cere
mony, a small reception was given
for the bridal party and out-of-town
guests at the home of the bride's
aunt, Mrs. Margaret Hatton, at 1014
Fairfax Avenue, Norfolk.
The couple are now making their
home at 933 West Onloy Road, Nor

With Meats?In Salads?For Desserts
Have you heard the latest about
the dried-fruit family? Did you
know that dried fruits are so deli
riously tender these days you no
longer need to soak them? You don't
even have to let them simmer the
usual long time! The modern pack
aged dried fruits are easy, speedy and
thrifty to cook. Serve them more of
ten with your meats, in your salads,
as desserts, etc. They're all so good
to eat, and rich in fruit sugar, cal
cium, iron and Vitamins A, B and
S.
Prune-and-Carrot Salad
Pare and grate 3 medium-size car
rots; add 2 tbsp mayonnaise or sal
ad dressing; toss together lightly
with a fork. Use this to fill 12 pitted
cooked prunes. Arrange three of the
filled prunes on individual beds of
lettuce and serve with French dress
ing.
Frozen Apricot Whip
2 egg whites
1-2 c sugar or honey
1 c apricots (dried cooked) .
1 tbsp lemon juice
Rind of 1-2 lemon
1 c cream to whip
Beat eggs stiff; add sugar and con
tinue beating. Add apricots, lemon
juice and rind and whip all together
lentil stiff. Whip cream separately
and fold into apricot mixture.
Prune Apple Betty
4 c sliced apples
2 c sliced stewer prunes .
2 c soft bread crumbs
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 -2 c sugar or honey
1 tsp cinnamon
1-8 tsp salt
4 tbsp butter or margarine
Arrange half of apples in a greas
ed 1 1-2 qt. casserole; combine rest
of ingredients for second layer. Cov
er; bake in moderate oven (350* F.)
for one hour. Uncover; bake 15 min
utes longer or until fruit is tender
Serve plain, with top milk or cream.
Serves 6.
Spanish Roast Loin of Pork
1-3 c minced green pepper
1-3 c minced onion
1-4 c salad oil
2 8-oz. cans tomato sauce
1 c hot water
1 tbsp chili powder
1 -4 c sirup
1-2 tsp salt
1-2 c sliced ripe olives

1 c seedless raisins
2 c cooked rice
3 lbs. loin of pork
Saute green pepper and onion in
oil until tender. Add tomato sauce
and hot water; bring to a boil. Com
bine chili, sirup, salt and 1-4 c wa
ter. Add with olives and raisins to
sauce; boil 4 minutes. Add 1-4 c of
this sauce to rice. Have butcher
loosen pork from rib bone, just en
ough to form a pocket the entire
length of the loin. Stuff this with the
rice mixture. Cook, covered, in
Dutch Oven, in moderate oven of
350* F. for 1 hour. Pour rest of rais
in sauce?over roast, and?continue
cooking, uncovered, one hour. Serves
six.
