COURTNEY MANNING-STANCILL (Washington Daily New*) Quiet simplicity and dignity mark ed the marriage of Miss Annie Bridg man Standi! to Mr. Charles Hodges Manning which took place Friday, I October 2nd, at five o'clock in the afternoon in the Methodist Church on the twenty-fifth wedding anni versary of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flynn Stancill, which was solemnized in a home ceremony. Mrs, James Hackney, church or ganist, played a program of nuptial music using as her selections. "Sona ta in A Minor," "Evening Star,' from Tanhauser. "Estreletta" and "Liebe straum." "Schubert's Serenade" was softly played during the ceremony and the traditional marches from Lo hengrin and Mendelssohn were used as the processional and recessional. The bride and bridegroom enter ed the church together unattended and took their place before the al tar. simply decorated with palms and baskets of white gladioli, and where the vows were spoken by the Rev. D A. Clarke, pastor bf the bride's church. The bride, an attractive blonde, was attired in a dress of Defense Blue silk designed on Princess lines. Her small hat was of a shade to match her dress trimmed in doubon nrt and draped with a short veil of blue. Her accessories were of dou bonnet and the orchid which she wore at her shoulder was pink tint ed. Mrs. Manning is the attractive only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Flynn Stancill and is a popular mem her of the Washington younger so cial set. She graduated from the lo cal high school with the class of 1936 and later attended Salem College where she received her business and commercial diploma. She has been employed with the Bank of Washing ton. the Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, held a position at Cherry Point and, for several months had been employed at the glider base in Edenton. Mr. Manning is the son of Mrs. A. J. Manning and the late Rev. Man ning of Williamston. He is a graduate of the Williamston schools and from the School of Law at Wake Forest College. After receiving his law de gree he was associated with the law firm of Peel and Manning in Wil liamston and last spring volunteered his services with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. For some time he had been located in Little Rock, Ark and has re cently been trans ferred to Philadelphia, where he and Mrs. Manning are now at home. Since the announcement of the ap proaching nuptials was made known at a prettily appointed party the bride has been extended a number of delightful social events. Was Business Visitor Here Mr. Lester Everett, of Spring Green, attended to business matters hereyesterday^ Happenings In The Farm Life School The second meeting of the Parent Teacher Association of the Farm Life school will be held on Thurs day evening, October 8th, at 8 o'clock in the school auditorium. Everyone is invited to come and particularly those citizens of the community are urged to be there. I In the first meeting of the FT A this year, Mrs. Eason Lilley was re elected president of the organization; I Mrs John A. Griffin, vice president; Mrs. Oscar Davenport, secretary; Mrs. Nathan Roberson, treasurer. The following committees were ap-1 pointed by the president: Program, I Mildred Ward. Mrs. Daniel Manning, Mrs. Rufus Hardison and Mrs Ira Hardison; First Aid, Mrs. John A. Hardison, Mrs. Asa Hardison, Mrs. Nick Daniels, and Mrs. Herbert Man ning. There have been three chapel pro grams presented by different class rooms so far this year The first by the tenth and eleventh grades car ried out the theme of 'What we can do in the war effort;" the second by the ninth grade brought out the theme, "I am an American," and the third by the eighth grade carried out the theme of "Americanism." The sixth and seventh grades will present the program for chapel this Friday. The new home economics depart ment in the school has not enthused I the students alone but has also inter ested the community in thinking | about a lunch room for the school The department is very well equip ped. The teacher in charge is Claire [Hill. I The senior class elected Elsie Ben nett Lilley, president; Nannie Mar garet Roberson. vice president; Geor-1 gia Deanne Roberson, secretary; Jo-1 sephine Hardison, treasurer. Thej class has already ordered rings for the year 1942-43. The school is now in the middle of one of the biggest drives ever staged by its students and patrons. This drive is to collect all scrap metal within the bounds of the community. This drive was explained to the school in chapel last Friday by the principal, Tommie Gaylord, and the students are willingly cooperating in this effort. ? AUXILIARY The first regular melting of the American Legion Auxiliary to be held this fall will be Saturday af ternoon, October 10th, at 3 o'clock, in the Auxiliary rooms of the Legion I Hut. It is very important that every 1 member be present. The work of the [organization for the coming year will I be discussed. ? GURKIN-JONES Miss Marie Jones and Dalmar Gurkin were married in South Mills, North Carolina, on Sunday, Septem ber 27tli. Mrs. Gurkin is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Harry Jones, of Jamesville, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Gurkin. Revival Meeting At The Rote Of Sharon Church Rev. Chas. Hamilton, of Fountain, is conducting a series of revival serv ices in the Rose of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church, near Bear Grass, this week. The services are being held each evening at 8 o'clock. Next Sun day, services will be held at 11 a. m., with the closing scheduled that evening at 8 o'clock. The public is invited to attend. ? To Entertain Pageant Cast At Hut Thursday The County Post of the American Legion will entertain the members of the "America on Parade" pageant cast in the hut on Watts Street on Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Sand wiches will be served and a dance program will feature the entertain ment, it was announced. All mem bers of the pageant cast are cordial ly invited to be present. ? RECENT BRIDE HONORED Mrs. James Mixon Bonner, a re cent bride, was complimented on Thursday evening at a dinner party given by Mrs. J Frank Jordan at her country home in Dardens. Guests were received informally and later invited into the dining room, where a three course dinner was served. Hand-painted place cards were attached to wedding fa vors White and blue were accentu ated in the table decorations, where white fall flowers and candles were used as a center piece. After the dinner. Mrs. Jordan in vited her guests into the gift room. Mrs. Mittie E Fagan, foster mother ? if the bride, gave a reminiscent talk of. "The Parties Here in Your High School Days." The Bridal Quiz Book was filled in by the following guests: Mesdames Charles Hough, Fred Woolard, Oscar Johnson, Dan Fa gan and Robert Walters. Mrs. C. B. Fagan assisted Mrs. Jordan in serving. ?
