Truck Farmers Are Facing A Big Task Atlanta?Vegetable producers and canners of the southeast may soon be helping other branches of the in dustry answer the call of the Army for 50,000.000 pounds of quick froz en vegetables from the 1943 crop, it was revealed today by the Quar termaster Branch. Fourth Service Command. If the request is met as it is ex pected to be. according to Quarter master officers, the big order will benefit the nation's growers and canners as well as the frozen food in dustry because the Army's use of frozen foods in this country will re sult in either: (1) releasing a large supply of canned foods to meet ever increasing demands of the troops overseas, or (2) it will result in a diversion of raw vegetables from canning to freezing Such diversion, it is declared, would save about 115.000 pounds of tin and 10,000.000 pounds of new steel. The saving in new steel alone would be enough to build nearly 200 medium sized tanks. The Army's tentative require ments for next year include 6.000, 000 pounds of snap beans. 10,000,000 pounds of lima beans. 4.000,000 pounds of cut corn, 23,000.000 pounds of green peas and nearly 10,000,000 pounds of spinach. Bv DALLAS MALLISON (Editor's Note: This is the third of a series of articles on the present world conflagration, its causes, con ditions determining its outcome, the course it is taking and the effects it will have on our generation and those to come.) WORLD PEACE AND WORLD UNITY Our last story dealt with the poli tical organization and structure of the new world order; and so great is this aspect of the new world now being born and so vast and profound the influence of this aspect upon the citizens of tomorrow that we are de voting another article to the effects and characteristics of the political changes now taking place. It should be born in mind that by "political organization and structure" We re fer not to the ordinary meaning ascribed to the term, -11politics", but to the whole sphere of organized government and its direct influences upon man. It is the belief expressed here that both the Roosevelt and Churchill governments are planning their war and peace strategies and programs on the basis that every precaution must be taken to guarantee the peace of the world in the future; and to ; do this, of necessity they must set up a new world political organiza tion so unified and so controlled that the peace will be maintained. This, sociologically, is not an u n reason I able view or a preposterous hope. [Once upon a time the only political . organization man had was that of ; the rule of the club which extend led from man to man; the political | unit was then expanded to include | families within which there was peace but between which there was still conflict; the next political unit j was that of the tribe of the clan with , peace within each clan and struggle | between each clan; thence came the I city-state as the next political unit | with peace within and struggle be tween; then emerged the modern na tion composed of individuals, fam ilies, clans, cities and states with I peace within and conflict between each nation. Now we have to go only one step further and we will have a world political unit composed of all these elements formerly at conflict with each other on different levels of poli tical organization and now at peace with each other and between each other. By "conflict" reference is made to overt physical struggle and not to economic, social, cultural or racial competition and conflict which will continue within the new world political order. Some Aspects of the New World Unit (1). What is historically known as Germany, Italy and Japan will dis appear from the earth; these nations and their empires will be dismem bered; the home peoples will be po liced and controlled for at least a generation to come by our military and economic units located within these countreis; Nazism, fascism and totalatarianism of the axis type will be .eradicated; the old Prussian and Japanese military castes and frame of mind will be destroyed; and by a systematic program of culturaliza tion and education, the peoples of these nations, especially Germany and Japan ? and especially the younger citizens of these countries ?will be taught that they are not the chosen race or people of God destin ed to rule the world and that their superiority is entirely a fabricated and manufactured myth. (2). The new world political order or the United Nations will operate as a total world political unit whose membership is not compulsory but made necessary by economic and political compulsions supported only by military mechanisms when one or more nations attempt to break the peace. (3) The United Nations will have a centrally governing body which will probably be a compromise be tween the British parliamentary and the American three-part constitu tional forms of government. Execu tive authority will probably and of necessity be set up and in the form of a plural head, such as a presidium of three to nine persons chosen by agreed methods by all the member nations and coming from any mem ber nation. (4). In order to achieve their main object, the preservation of the world peace, the United Nations must necessarily weld the world in to a closely knit economic unit and a new harmonious racial unit. Thus, very much as a nation today controls the economic functions and racial elements w ithin its own boundaries, the United Nations will do for the world as a whole. The beginings of this new world economic order, controlled and guid ed by a world political unit, are now clearly visible and will be built upon many of the practices and devices now being estiblashed by the United Nations as a prerequisite to winning this war This new economic order will be the subject of our next ar ticle. ?
