JULY Speed the Day There ought to be no time lost, The Advance thinks, in amending the hospital charter so as to relieve the directors of the Chamber of Commerce of the burden of directing the hos pital. This should be done 'for twe reasons. In the first place, it should be done for the sake of the hospital Manifestly a board of directors elected in the first place because they are in sympathy with th< community hospital idea, woulc be in better position to serve the hospital than a board elected as directors of the Chamber o( Commerce whose duties as di rectors of that 91'ganizatior might at times interfere with their duties as directors of the hospital. In the second place, it should be done for the sake of the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce ought not to be saddled with the direc tion of any institution as to which there has been waged such a sharp factional fight as that of which the Community Hospital has recently been the ccnter. News then. The Advance be lieves, that the proposed amend ment to the hospital charter pro viding for the creation of~a new board of directors has been ef fected will be received with gen uine and general relief. It CosIh Money League baseball in Elizabeth City received a decided setback, vance believes, when the storm blew down part of ttic grandstand and fence. ?The Advance understands that the baseball treasury is short of funds and that a whirl wind campaign is to be made this week for money to carry the club the rest of the season. Fans who clamored for base ball of the type which Elizabeth City now has have known all along that it would take money to carry on such a team. The campaign for funds, then, should occasion no surprise and the appeal for funds, it seems to this newspaper, should meet a ready response. Especially is this true in view of the fact that Elizabeth City now not only has a team that plays a creditable brand of baseball but also one that has defeated nearly all com ers and completely humbled Elizabeth City's ancient rival, Edenton, winning four straight games from the Edenton aggre gation, three of which were shutouts. Just that, Mr. B. B. Fan, ought to be worth a rather lib eral contribution. Will you come across? One of the signs of the times is the number of homes being built by city wage earners who used to think of nothing but paying rent. Do you see any re lation between this fact and prohibition ? It may be difficult to find a remedy, but it takes no econom ist to tell that there's something wrong when it takes ten bushels of wheat to buy a pair of shoes made from six cent hides. It seems a shame that North Carolina's best wheat crop in years should have come when wheat was selling at less than the cost of production. -V PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Hastings. Elizabeth City people recommend Doan's Kidney Pills. Ask your neighbor! Here's an Elizabeth City man's 'experience: A. S. Xeal, retired planter, 207 E. Church St., says: "My kidneys were out of condition and bothered me for a long time. I had to pass the se cretions often and there was a burn ins sensation in passage. I had se ; vero pains across my back and kld , neys during these spells,, which felt as if a knife were stabbing me. Every time I bent it yas liard for me to straighten. I suffered this way until I began to use Doan's Kidney Pills, which I bought at the Standard Pharmacy.
