Dealers Sold Out On Potato Seed NO REDUCTION IN ACREAGE OF CROP * 1 Indeed Some Dealer* Look { for Increase With Betler Seed the Rule Than Has Been the Caw Heretofore. With practically all supplies of seed potatoes exhausted tlie price j has advanced in thiB section about 25 cents cm the quotations of last week which were <1 a bag higher than the early season price. Heavy ; demand and favorable conditions thus far point. to a successful yield' and many optlmir c, while others more conservati** believe that a good year in potatoes is at least probable. The damage caused by the heavy! rains trro weeks ago has turned out to be less than was at first anticipat ed. Some growers suffered losses j estimated at 5 per cent of the acre age planted while others have re ported no ill effects at all, according I to N. Howard Smith. The acreage planted this year will, without a doubt, equal that of last season. Some believe there will be a little increase. Buxton White of ? the lluxton White Seed Company is one of those who holds that the acreage will be somewhat higher than last season, especially the acre age planted by growers on their own account. There is no doubt that many firms have withdrawn from share planting, however, and very little of this form of growing will be practiced. Heavy rains and very hot sultry ?weather, at this stage would have1 a tendency to cause heavy losses from rot, but if the weather remains comparatively cold there will be iit ' He or no danger, according to those interested. Growers this year have demanded - a better quality of seed potato than1 in former years and the use of Ca nadian seed which sells at a higher price and is valued more than any other, has increased fully 100 per cent according to Howard Smith, who believes that this tendency will,' with all conditions equal, tend to in crease the yield in this section on an equal acreage with last season. The price of the potatoes grown from better class seeds has proved to* be higher than from less desirable stock. The current prices are Maine Cer tified $5.75 and Canadian Certified $7.25 for 11 peck bags. r Farm News and Views A. N. Winslow of Belvidere made a purchase of two fancy Duroc-Jer *ey gilts from C. W. Ives prize win nine herd this week, according to County Agent Falls. These gilts will Improve the strain of Mr. Wins low's Perquimans fariu^ The demand for Canadian certi fied seed potatoes is growing in this section. Some growers are finding that better results may be expected from the more expensive cobblers.
