Peterson, candidate for Commissioner of Labor and Printing, seems to be gaining in strength rapidly, especially among the voters of the East. Here is the Monroe Journal's view of his candidacy: We did not bring Peterson out for this office and he Is not, therefore, particularly our candidate, hut we are.bound to vote for him for a very simple reason. That reason is that there Is no better man In North Car olina, or anywhere else for that mat ter, or one better fitted for the office. We have'known Pete a long time and know that there Is not a single ele ment of true manhood that does not find expression In him. He Is a man of Intellect and conscience. In col lege with such men as Mr. llalley, Judge Webb (E. Y.,) and C. P. Sapp (a native of this county whose un timely death cut short a most bril liant career) lie was recognized as the peer of each of them. Most of the brilliant men of that class went into law or politics and became con spicuous. But Peterson buried him self In n school house and worked ao conscientiously developing mind and character In others that he lis;! no time for looking out tor himself. Aid that la his only fault? If you fatay judge It a fault?he haa been working so carefully for others that he haa done nothing for himself, ex cept to grow Into one of the most beautiful spirits that we have ever known. And another thing, Peter son's beauty Is all on the Inside; his exterior Is rather rugged; In fact, he belongs to that class of men who are ao homely that they are beautiful. We ahould not dare tell any one to vote for Peteraon, for folks resent being told whom to vote for. Hut If the men and women of this county are looking for a real man to cast their ballota for, they need not go any further, for Peterson Is a man, brave aa a lion, aweet as a woman, and he would not do a mean thing to be Prealdent of the United States, much leas Commlaaloner of Labor and Printing. List Your Properly Why not list your taxes early next week? It is the last week in which taxes may be listed, and yet hardly more than half of those required to list before Saturday night have done so. Unless those who have not listed come forward early in the week, manifestly it will be im possible for the list takers to wait on all who will try to list during the latter part of the wook. Failure to list puts one's name on the delinquent list and adds a penalty of 25 per cent to his taxes. There is abundant rea son why one, from a standpoint of his own interest, should list early next week. There is the added reason that by so doing he will make somewhat less oner ous the work of the list takers. Most happy are we to note that the price of May peas went instead of down.
