However, you of! course can see this is impossible. May I say to them through you | that 1 am grateful indeed for ev ery consideration accorded me." The foregoing quotation is, from a personal letter to the ed-1 itor of The Advance from I*'. I'. Latham, candidate for Commis sioner of Agriculture in the late primary. It is a pleasure to Tnol Advance to pass along to its readers who voted for and sup ported Mi'. Latham this word of appreciation from him, Lindsay Warren of Beaufort and W. D. Pruden of Chowan are in conference with Chair man Page of the North Carolina Highway Commission in regard to the bill which it is proposed to introduce into this session of the Legislature providing for a bridge across the Chowan River from Emperor to Edenhouse. | The Advance trusts that th conference will produce a bill] that can pass and that wil| in sure early construction of the proposed bridge on an equitable and satisfactory basis for all concerned. The Advance is most happy *o learn that the Kiwanis Club has kept in touch with the Harm o Foundation offer of free sites for playgrounds in growing towns and that the club is hoi>e ful that Elizabeth City will bo included among the towns that the foundation will aid this year. The Advance is hopeful, in turn, that the club will not be disappointed. Surely this playground matter has hung fire long enough. Surely the Democratic party, after seeing the awful mess thrt the Republicans got themselves into by playing lioth ends against the middle on the League of Nations issue-in 1920 woyld not think even victory at the polls this year would lie worth paying such a price for. With parking space daily at a higher and higher premium in Elizabeth City, wonder if t'ie City Council could not provide, temporarily at least, public parking facilities on some of the down town vacant lots? To Service Light-Haired "Dark Horse" John "N*. Davis nml Mrs. Davis pose for th?*ir latest picture us the Democratic convention pifparcs to open. The photo was taken on the lawn of their New Vork hviue. We y-;o by our favorite Kliza bet|i City afternoon newspaper that Pii'.-ucU'iit Coolidge tuned i;. on the Democratic Convention Tuesday afternoon. Wei!, our modest judgment is that he got an earful. Democratic applause at the speech of Senator Pat Harrison had hardly ceased to echo through Madison Square Gar den Tuesday afternoon before Advance subscribers at Belcross, Camden, Gregory, Shawboro and Moyock were reading The Associated Press report of the speech in The Daily Advance. The Democratic Convention! has the right of way in this; newspaper while it is in session, J which means, on a four page' day, that some items of lo :al news or personal mention must; be crowded out. A serious ef- j fort will be made, however, to! run all local news that is peris'i able and of the variety that w!ll keep to get in tomorrow what is left out today. Again we invite you, if you] get a small town daily besides1 The Advance, to compare tiic: convention service given by this newspaper yesterday with that of the neighlwr publication. And we don't believe The Advance; would suffer a great deal in co 11 parison of its convention ser vice with that of almost aoy| North Carolina afternoon news-j paper you might pick up.
