SOCIAL HAPPENINGS Nineteenth Birthday Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Jennings beautifully entertained at u dinner complimenting the nineteenth birth day of their duuichter. Miss Rosalie -Stevenson. Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. The dining room was lovely in its simplicity. A white cake with pink randies and trim mings of green made the centerpiece for the table, where a regular din ner and ice cream atul cuke werd served. The gu?'*t of honor was the recipient of many lovely gifts and thoHo present wre: Miss Gussle Sam ple. Mrs. S. I). Ragley, Mr. and Mrs. John Stevenson and Walter Ryan. lllble Clans Meets The Student's Wesley Bible Class of Cltv Road Methodist elmrch was delightfully entertained Tuesday ev ening by Group No. Seven at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Hill on East Burgess street. The president. Mrs. N. II. O^enl. presided while busi ness was being tranaeted and plans were made for the summer work. Rev. Daniel Lane and the teacher of the class. G. F. Seyffert. made help ful talks. After the devotional hour a social hour was enjoyed and deli clous refreshments were served by the hostesses. Mcsdames G. F. Hudg Ins. Kvelyn Hill. C. T. Tillett, R. E. Lewis and N. H. O'Neal. Busy lire* Meet The Busy Bees, a girls club, had a delightful basket picnic Thursday In the country. Thirty members were in the party and all enjoyed the af ternoon very much. After dinner games and story telling were the en tertalnlng amusements. They were chaperoned by Mrs. Joe Crane, Mrs. Vernon Caddy and Mrs. Susie Brink ley. Club Enjoys rirnir Miss Marcle Albertson met Wed nesday with her Riverside Club at Bartlett's Reach, where they enjoyed the cool breezes direct from the old Pasquotank. The children enjoyel wading while the mothers made de licious sandwiches and spent a very profitable as well as delightful after noon. Fifteen members and two rlsitors were present. After a de monstration of salad, dressing by Miss Albertson delicious refresh ments were served. The beach proved to be so pleasant that the club will hold Its next meeting there. Mother's Club Meets The regular meeting of the Mother's Club was held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 In the Community House on Fleetwood street with twenty members and one visitor present. Two new babies were en rolled and twenty three babies wc;o wwighed. The meeting was led by the president. Mrs. Martin Jennings, and Mrs. Anna Lewis. County Wel fare Officer, gave the mothers a talk and some literature on the care of babies in hot weather. An infor mal meeting was held after the bu siness hour and appetizing refresh ments were served consisting of lemonade and wafers. There are forty-five babies enrolled and fifty mothers, all showing splendid pro gress and very few of the babies los ing in weight. Sllss Manette Swan, who has been visiting Miss Mary Mitchell Gilbert on Pennsylvania Avenue, has re turned to her home at Shrevport. La., and was accompanied by Miss Gil bert. Miss Mattle Virginia Williams of Cherry street Is Improving after suf ferlng with a broken collar bone. Miss Loftise Adams is spending some time In Portsmouth and Ocean View as the guest of friends and rel atives.
