Jandro probably wishes It had. It denied liliu the privilege of looking for the last. time upon the thing he loved most on earth?his little boy. Jandro Is serving a year in jail for passing worthless check*, cashed to get funds to provide a bounteous Chrltsmas for his two year-old son. It was only a com paratively small sum which he secured, but he received a year's Imprisonment because he had a police record for similar bad check escapades. Janeiro's birthplace ?ras Lon don, England. Some years back he proudly wore one of Great Bri tain's highest decorations for war time bravery. But he does not wear It any more. Like a lot of almllar war time decorations, it found its way into a pawn shop. Jandro#wat* an aviator during the war. On?* night a German dirigible bombed London and Jan dro, with three other men in a giant plane went aloft to give them battle. Tho plane was shot down and all three of Jandro's companions dashed to Instant death. Ultimately he recovered, but not until months had been spent In a hospital In a desperate fight against death, lie was duly decorated by the British govern ment. Two years ago. shortly aft?r! the Jandros came to Oakland, a boy baby was born. Since, theu on several occasions Jandro ha! been In trouble over bad check*, i In almost every case It developer he was out of work and had used i the money to support his wife and baby. A couple of times the bad check charges were dismissed. The last time he was arrested and sentenced to Jail. The day after Jandro's arrest, two weeks ago. his little boy be came HI. Jandro, unable to go to its bedside, was almost insane with worry and nrlef. Sunday, the little boy died. H" was buried Tuesday. The cross of punishment which the law laid upon Jandro was an adamant refusal to let him lea v the jail long enough to attend his child's funeral. He was late getting in be cause he was on a trip with the basket ball team at Salisbury and Greensboro aud will leave Mondav to Join the team for another trip. Mr. and Mrs. George Culpepper and son.
