ATTORNEY TELLS WIDE WORLD OF A FAVORED LAND I Description of Albemarle District.. Eloquently Giv en by J. C. B. Kliringhati* at WRVA, Kielimond MUSICAL SEIJCCTIONS ! Variegated Program Is Broadcast hy hlizubetb City, Hertford and Kdeii-, ton Folk by Kudio A striking dear, convincing and ! eloquent recital of the many ad vantages of the Albemarle over; less favored sections of the rouu-' try wan given by J. Hertford apd Edeiitou folk at Station WHVA. iii Richmond, last night. Tbf program included many pleasing voc?*l and instrumental ?elections also, and while it was in progress, h- ndreds of radio fans here listeued in on It. with varying degrees of succesa. Those who succeeded in getting it clear ly pronounced it thoroughly worth while. During the early part of the ev ening, radio llstenerH-in here were hampered by a peculiarly persis tent condition of satlc. Later, however, the condition cleared up appreciably. Many of the radio fans declared they heard Mr. Kh rlnjbauft' speech very distinctly. The address by Mr. Ehringhaus follows: "My iuIhhIoii this evening is sim ple though difficult of real achievement, for I would If pos sible bring home to each of you, my hearers, something of the his tory. the charm, and the promise of a very little kuown and murh misunderstood section of your country aud mine. Cradle of the Nation "You hear, no doubt, all too fre quently of North Carolina as a whole, ? of her wealth, her Indus tries. her achlwttiuenta aud her fulure. But moat of what you hear relates to what la known as the Piedmont and western sections of the State. These are the great (industrial sections of the common wealth. But it Is my desire to tell you something of that section of the old North State which Is clos est to Virginia, geographically, so cially and economically, and which is historically the cradle of Amer ican civilization. "Shut your eyea a moment and conjure up in your mind a picture of the Tar Heel State, aud you will Instantly recall that at Its northeaHtern corner lies a terri tory which roughly speaking Is bounded by the ocean on the east, the Virginia line on the north, the beautiful and majestic Chowan River on the west, and the great Sound waters of North Carolina to the south. Thla territory Is known as Albemarle North Caro lina, constituting, as it does, large ly the areas originally designated as Albemarle Precinct In the orig inal grant of King Charles of Eng land and named hy him for Gen eral George Monk, who was. as you recall, created Duke of Albe marle In gratitude for his services in restoring the throne and suc cession to Charles after the col lapse of the Cromwellian dispen sation. "T'..ls territory embraces now the counties of Currituck. Cam den.
