Ipt na warn t.hp .Democrats against "ring rule." Don't let it be said that there is a "ring" in the politics of Washing ton county Democrats. The Bea con ,is a strong advocate of the principles of Democracy, but it has seen the faults of Democratic lead ers and the damning influeuce of "ring rule," and in the interests of the party we appeal to the people of that great party to keep its politi cal ledger clean. Let there be au open convention ; let every candidate have a fair show ing, and let harmony reign supreme in the Democratic ranks. If there lias been a slate made up, we ask that that slate bo kept out of the convention on next Tuesday. We note that at a mass-conven tion of old line Republicans held in the town of Hertford on the 26th of September, our former townsman, Joshua L. Wheedbee, Esq., was nominated as the Republican candi date for Congress in the First Dis trict. This convention was largely at tended and enthusiastic. It de nounced fusiou Skinner as well as John .11. Small. This looks like Mr. Skinner was on the low side in this fight, for he cannot expect the Populists who are in favor of the Ocala platform, to support him, and with Whidbee in the field, as a straight Republican, he can't expect much support from them, aud surely that Free Silver champion, John 11 Small, will get all the Democratic votes, together with the reform votes from the other two parties. If Snia.il fs not elected, we have the consolation of believing that Skin ner will not be. It looks to us like the fisht is between Whidbee and Small, and the election of either means the defeat of the rinsr-fusion- pie-huutitig gang. A Sues Theso Fob You.
