News reached here from Skinners yille on Friday last that a negro, one John Green, hud been shot by a JSherilFs posse at day-light. Dr. Ward, the county physician, was summoned to the scene. On arrival he found Dr. llallsey in attendance and the negro with his left leg shot seriously. There being no accom modation in the neighborhood, the physicians ordered the officer to take the man to jail where they could give him proper attention. The of ficer arrived here with the man about U o'clock that night, and Drs. Ward and llallsey proceeded to amputate the limb above the knee, and a IJeacon reporter gathered the fol lowing facts in the case: John Green, one of those goodie, good kind of negroes; a cross be tween a theological student and a swamp coon, for which a capias has been standing for a year, in this county, made his appearance in the neighborhood of tSkinnersville, where he lias lived (when not dodging the ollicers) for a few years. With his gun he had been going about threat ning the lives of certain citizens of the community. A peace warrant was sworn out before Justice Swain, which was placed in the hands of Deputy Sheriff fctarr, who at once summoned four men and went to ar rest Green, lie managed to elude the posse during the night, but about- sun-rise they came upon him and the Sheriff ordered him to halt. This he-did at a distance of about 40 yards, but 'instead of throwing up his bauds he threw up his gun as if he intended to shoot the officer, but seeing the officers were ready for any emergency, he whirled to run, but too late, for his act of drawing his gun had invited the officers to shoot, which they did. Three guns ii red, and John Green fell, with a ball wound in his left leg, the ball enter ing the lower part of the' leg, rang ing up and striking the knee pan, glancing up and splitting the bone of the thigh above the knee, with above mentioned result. After being wounded he was tried by Justice Swain and required to give bond in the sum of --200. Upon failure to give same he was commit ted to jail, and at this writing is getting along nicely with his injuries.
