Tayloe, at ashington last week, and who was taken to Williamstou jail for safe keeping, was found dangling at the end of a rope near Washington on Tuesday morning iast. Mr. H. B. One of tins prisoners who was not closely confined, broke tho others out of their cells and to gether they broke out of the build ing. They were seen on the streets by Mr. 11. P. Walker, who notified the Sheriff, who at onee went iu pursuit and captured two of tho, four about five miles from town, that night. On Monday he organized a posse and scoured the country, but could not find the others. However Mr. Job Clayton, who was on the lookout for them, caught one of the remaining two near Mackey'a Ferry and brought him up Monday. The other one is still at large. . Only 2"o at Spruill & Bro's. store. The County Home. ' At a meeting of the County "Com missioners held on Monday, March 17th, to receive bids to build houses for the county home, Mr. W. J. Jackson was the only contractor to make a bid, and was awarded the contract to build three new houses ; his bid for the same being $1,250. ' The change from one large house to severnl cottages was, we think, a good one, and has many advantages over the old way, especially in cases of lire, contagion, serious illness, etc. The suggestion which led to this change was made by Col. W. F. Beasley, who was untiring m his efforts to secure the very bst accom modations for our county poor when he found that a new home was to be built, and the inmates we are sure will thank him for it, as they have reasons to thank him for other kind considerations in times past. Mrs. Latham's Spring Open ing. ; ; Tuesday . and Wednesday were beautiful days, and they being open ing days at Mrs. Annie Latham's, the public took advantage of them and turned out in full. From morn ing until night of both days Mrs. Latham and her assistants were kept busy showing the many pretty things and taking ordsrs for Easter hats and spring millinery.
