Messrs. D. H. Clark, Philip Latham, L. A. Peal, Norman and L. R. Ausbon, spent Sunday in Belhaven. Misases Emma and Josephine Swain are spending this week here as the guest of Mrs- A. w. Swain. Mr. Norman Harney, left Wed nesday for Norfolk. The concert given by the sing 'ing class from the Oxford Or phanage last Friday night was a very interesting and amusing one being greatly enioyed by all that attended. N Mr. J W. Richardson, after spending a few days in New Berne, returned Wednesday. The question is, which is of the more interest to our politicians the post office or town election. Mr. W. F. Ausbon., left Wed nesday for Washington, where he has gone to have his baby treated for rupture. Mr. -Clyde Gaboon, wife and children. Misses Sammie Harrison and Carrie Spruil! motored to Roper Wednesday. The declamations by the stud ents of the. Plymouth Graded School will be given at Blount's Hall. All are cordially invited to attend. Messrs. II. S. Midgett, P. M. Arps, and C. O. Ward, left Tues day morning for Raleigh. The supper given at Blount's Hall Tuesday night by the Ladies Parsonage Aid Society, of the M E. Church was quite a success. Mr3 Marcia Latham who is a teacher of viathematics in New York has been visiting this her old home this week.th guest of her aunt Mrs. Emma B.Norman Mr. Clarence Latham made short visit to Norfork this week. Norman Harney left on Tues day for Norfolk where he goes to accept a position. All those contemplating run ning lor any of our city offices and who will wait until Monday to get their order in for tickets are warned that we will beunab'e to take care of any of this work after six o'clock Saturday, VI ay the third. So if you intend to have this done and want us to do it vou will have your order in by noon Saturday. We call attention to the fact that a town election will be held in Plvmou h on Tuesday next for the purpose of electing a Mayor, Chief of Police and Board of Councilmen. We mention this as it seems to have been forgotten by many of our people who have lost sight of every-thing except the postoffice question. Obituary. Mrs Martha Bateman widow of the late A. W. Bateman died at the home of her brother Mr W. J Jackson on Satnrday morning . at 1 o'clock aged about 53 years Mr3 Bateman leaves three child ren, several brothers and sisters and a host of friends to mourn her death. The interment was made in the family burying ground near Plymouth on Sunday afternoon, Rev. VV. B. Haugh ton has accepted a paction with the Richmond Cedar works and left Wedne day for Frying Pan on the Aligator River ,vhere he will be located for a month or so, after which he will be transferred to the territory be tween E. Leonard Singleton, while in charge of the passenger train Norfolk to Raleigh was vie iously assaulted by two dis orderly nigra, passengers last Sunday afternoon between Washington and Wilson, one of whom shot him twice at close range, one ball missing and the other striking his belt buckle which fact probably saved his life. The other slashed him bad ly in the back and while the wounds are serious they are not thought to be-dangerous. He at present in a hospital in Wilson and getting along nicely. The two negroes are in jail at Wil son awaiting trial. The Social meeting of the Ep worth League was held at the Graded School Annex Tuesday evening, the subject study for the f ul program was rendered after which delicious cream and cake were served- Mr- W. B. Davenport, a prom inent young busnsfs man of Mackeys terry,' was happiy married to Miss Sophia Stevens Forbes at Shawporo Wednesday of this week and are now on a tour of the Northern c'ties, af ter which they will be at home at Msckeys Ferry. Roper Graded Schools will close on May 9'th. the commence ment exercises to be', held on Thursday and Friday evemings of that week. The old Capt. Tom Norman mansion in Skinnersville town ship owned by Mr. J. M. Wood ley was totally destroyed by fire about three o'clock last Friday evening1, probably caused by a spark on the roof. This was the largest house in the County, built many years ago of hand newed timber, impossible to du plicate now-a-days, ard the loss was about 0000., with no in surance. Announcement.
