Miss Ida Peacock Spent several days in Edenton this wek, Miss Margaret Herrington is visiting friends in E. City. Miss Isa Gordon Tucker of Washington, D. C. is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Dr. Speight. Mr. Lindley Windley and wife of Portsmouth, Va., are visiting relatives here. Master Ben Halsey Knight is visiting his grand-father, Mr. Abram Newberry on the sound side near Columbia. Miss Gladys Mitchell left Wed nesday for an extended visit to Natural Bridge and Ocean View. Miss Myrtle Peacock who has been attending the Summer School at E. C. T, T. School Tues day Greenville, returned home Monday. The Farmers Union of Wash ington County held a large picnic . at Mackeys bn Wednesday, the lGth, a large crowd being pres ent. Miss Margarett Chesson of E. City, and Magnolia Privott, of Edenton who have been visiting their aunt, Mrs- John W. Chesson returned home Tuesday and were accompanied by Misses Vivian and Hyacinth Chesson. The DuPont Powder Co. have an expert here this week demon strating the use of dynamite in ditching, dredging, clearing and subsoiling of land, the experim ents being conducted at Wenona Quite a number of our prominent business men and farmers have visited Wenona this week for the purpose of witnessing the experi mental demonstrations, which ' are quite interesting. NOTICE OF LETTING OF DRAINAGE CONTRACT. The Board of Drainag-e Commissioner5 of Drainage district No 4 of Washing ton County, N. C, will on July 29, 1913 at one o'clock P. M. at Roper, N. C, let the contract for the construction of about fifteen miles ot drainage ditches requiring- approximately the excavation of 4.52,862 cubit yards of earth and other wors connected there-with in drainage district no 4 of Washington county as described in final report of the enj ineer and viewers filed with the clerk of the Buperioi court of Washington county N O. on Juae 5th. 1913, together with plans and specifications of said work. Sealed bids in writings must be filed with J. W Chesson, vice chairman of the Board at Roper, N. C. on or before noon July 29th. 1913. The contract wiU be let to the lowest responsible bidder either as a whole or in sections as the board of drainage commis sioners tnay decide will be most advan tageous for the district. The success ful bidder mast execute a bond in favor cf the commissioners of the district to ' the amount of 25 per cent of the es timated cost of the work awarded to him for the faithful performance of his contract and he shall have a dredge in operation on the ground within ten days after the contract has been award ed to him.
