N. C. Mr. Ji W. Starr of Creswell, in town Monday. Mr. N. W. Spruill of Roper was in town Tuesday. Mr. W. S. Davenport of Mack- eys, was in our city Monaay. Mr. H. A. Norman of Scupper nong was in the city Monday. Rev. C. E. And revs is holding a series ot meetings at Creswell. Good rains have visited many sections of this county the past week. Miss Gladys Norman has re turned home from a visit to Bow dens, N. C. Mrs. A. M. Ayers is visiting her daughter, .Mrs. Thos. G. Moore at Bath. Miss Allie Martin is visiting . her sister, Mrs. Smith, near Washington. Work on the Washington St, Baptist Church is being rushed to completion. Miss Ella Mae Latham of New port News, Va., is the guest of relatives in our city. Mrs. A. S. Blount and child ren of Suffolk, Va., are visiting relatives in our midst. Rev. E. B. Joyner and wife of Hinson, spent several hours in our town on Friday lat. Miss Louise Hornthal and Inez Bell are attending a house party at Creswell this week - Misses Mattie and Claudia Ausbon are visiting relatives at Hobgood and Scotland Neck. Mr. and Mrs M. G. Darden left Tuesday for a ten days visit to Baltimore and other places. Mr. A. L. OWens and family have retnrned home from . a month's outing at Nag's Head. Glad to see our old friend Mr. A. L. Gurkin and family of Roanoke Ripids. here this week. Mrs. Roy Swain and little son Lawrence, are visiting Mrs. T. W. Syruill, near Pinetown this week. Rev. B. T. Hurley is absent this week assisting his brother in a series of meetings at Rocky Mount. Mr. W. F. Hayes having com pleted his country home near town has moved his family to the same. G. L. Hairs Optician from Norfolk will be at Davenport's Drug Store Friday, July 28th for one day only. a" Miss Myra Aumack of Skin tiersville is visiting ner cousins, the Misses McConnico, on South Jelferson Street. 1 Mrs. Fannie Ayers and daugh ters, Misses Louise and Bettie have been spending this week at Ocean View, Va. Mr. and Mrs. D. 0. Brinkley and Mrs. W. M Scarborough and little daughter, Elizabeth, spsnt Sunday in Norfolk. Mrs. E- C. Caton of Hampton, Va., arrived last Friday to spend gome time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Ausbon. We deeply sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Pinkham in the loss of their little six-months old son, who died on Friday last. Miss Neva Ausbon after -an absence of several weeks in .Hampton. Norfolk and other -rirginian points, re'urnea nome .Monday. Mr. T. T. Gardner, spent a short time in Washington last week, having gone there to see a nephew who is in. the hospital quite sick. Commissioners' proceedings and bank statements all having to be published this week many item of interest are necissarity crowded out. Mossers. Everct & Son; forme ?y in the Harney Building have this week moved into the Brink ley Block next door to Washing ton County Bank. We note that in order to ac comodate his increasing trade Mr.-W. C. Harrison has taken out the partition and made his store-room much larger. Capt. Harney having been the successful bidder to finish the Post-office building, it is assu red that Plymouth will haveN an up-to-date office. It will be lo cated in the Harney Building and equipped with modern fix tures. We are still handicapped by the absence of the Junior Editor. The last heard from him was the day before the recent flood, and he was then near Asheville and in the midst of this district. Since the calamity we have been unable to hear from or of him. We presume -he is safe, but as all the wash-outs , are between us and him it is impossible to form any idea as to when he can return home- Mayor SprUill. Owing to his removal from town, Mayor W. F. Hayes ten dered his resignation at a meet ing of the Town Council last Friday night, and Councilman H, C. Spruill was elected Mayor in his stead. At a meeting Wed nesday night Mr. J. Iv Reid was elected Councilman to sueeed Mr. Spruill who had to resign this position to accept the May oralty. Both are most excellent selections Mr. M. S. Davis Dead. O ir town and community was shoc ked on Sunday last to learn of the sudden death of Mr. M. S. Davis at his home near West over.. Truiy a good man has gone to his reward, and our sympa thies go out to the bereaved rel atives and friends. The interment was made in the family plot, at home Monday afternoon with Masonic honors, assisted by his pastor, Dr. J. C. Coggins. MicLSummer Eve. This beautiful play, presented by the ladies of the Episcopal Church, supported by forty little children representing Will-o'-the -Wisps, Elves and Fairies, was given , at the Majestic Theatre Wednesday night. This play was unique ar.d en tertaining in the extreme, and the deportment of the children reflect great credit upon them and upon Mrs. R. A. Williford and Mrs. Fred Knight who had succeeded in drilling them so beautifully. Good Sunday School Work. While the attendance at the M. E- Sunday School has been very good during the past year, the record was broken for the second quarter of this year. When pins were awarded for the quarter last Sunday sixty-four received them for perfect atten dance, and several others failed through non-attendance of only one day. At this session the town was divided into districts and com mittees appointed, to canvass each with the determination of getting every child especially, and every grown person if pos sible, to attend some Sunday School. A Moon-Light Pic-Nic. On Monday evening last Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Bell, Jr., delight fully entertained a party of young people on board their launch. A trip was made to San dy Point. After arriving there supper was enjoyed on the beach. Bathing an 1 other sports were indulged in until the moon arse and lighted the nath for a pleas ant trip back across the Albe marle.
