Miss Combs of Gum Neck is visiting Mrs. C. N. Davenport. We are glad to know that the condition of Miss Sara Bateman is rapidly improving. Rev. 0. N. Marshall returned Monday from a meeting at Oak Grove which closed Sunday. He reports a good meeting. Every one is looking forward with great prospects to the com ing of the Chautauqua Oct., 13 16th. Walker held their fall openings Tuesday of this week and were visited by a large number of prospective buyers. Refresh ments were served at the store of Mr. Walker and have met with many comments. . Rev. C. C. Kelsey was here Sunday morning and evening, and at Columbia in the after noon in his regular services. He announced that Bishop Darst will be here Oct., 28th; also that there wrould be a mission meeting beginning the first Sun day in November. Hon. H. C. Carter, of Wash-' ington, N. C , Presidential elec- tor of this district on the Demo cratic ticket, kroke to a large number of the citizens of Cres well and surrounding community Tuesday night at 7:30 on the popular issues of the present campaign. He says that this is . an unparallel era in the history of the country ; that prosperity is greater to-day than ever in the history of this country. Mr. W. S. Davenport ot Mackeys, candidate for one of the State Senators from this district was also present and presided over the meeting. Rev. J. H. Abernethy, pastor of the M. P. Church, returned Thursday from a trip through the Piedmont section of the .state.
