Nov. 17 The attention ol all graduates and students of the North Caro lina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts is called to the following notice: "The examination of candi dates for provisional appoint ment as second lieuterants in the army will begin on January 29, 1(J27. Applicants for authority to undergo this examination should forward their appications to tho Adjutant General of the Army at as early a date as prae ticible and, in any event, not la ter than January 15 1917, as ap plications after that date may be too lale for proper consideration in connection with this examin ation" A large rumber of vacancies now exist in the grade of second lieutenant in the line of the army The pav of a second lieutenant is 1,70) yearly. Officers receive 10 p. c. on the yearly pay of the grade for each term of live years! service, not to exceed 40 p.c. in all.
