CONDENSED STATEMENT OF lo fe I He Washington Lmmky Plymouth, North Carolina. February 26, 1917. a County, in order that you mightknow just what steps to take in making: preparation for the County Commencement on March 0, I have decided to write a personal letter to every teacher in the county outlining the plans as adopted by the Teachers' Association of Washington County. You are requested to put forth every effort possible to get the people of your district interest ed and have as large per cent of children from your district in the parade as possible. Remember that a prize is offered to the teacher of the school that has the largest per cent of children from the district in the school parade. You are requested to insist that tho children wear uniform dress, as far as possible on County Commencement Day. SCHOOL PARADE; The school will be lined up in the parade in double-file with the teacher and Committeemen inarching at the head of the line. Each school is expected to have a banner showing the name of the school and such other information as the teacher sees fit to put there. Please insist on your committeemen getting m line with your school. SCHOOL EXHIBITS: The school exhibits will be divided into three departments this year. An exhibit of the best daily class-room work, an exhibit of the best work in Manual Training, and an exhibit of the work in Domestic Science. A prize will be offered for the best exhibit in each of the three departments. It will be necessary for the teacher or some one from the school to come with the exhibits and arrange them so as to present as good appearance as possible. We want the exhibits arranged for display on March 29th. HIGH SCHOOL DECLAMATION CONTEST: Eacb school doing high school work will be al lowed to enter two high school pupils in this contest. Please let me have the names of the con testants as soon as possible. Remember that a prizes is offered to the winner in this contest. GRAMMAR SCHOOL DECLAMATION CONTEST: Each school in the county will be allow ed to enter two pupils f-om the grammer grades, (5th, 6th, and 7th, grades,) in this contest. It will be necessary to let me have the names of the contestants not later than March 23rd. A prize is offered to the winner in this contest. SPELLING-BEE CONTEST: Each school will be allowed to enter four pupils in this contest from the grammar grades It will be necessary to let me have the names of the pupils who wish to take part in this contest, not later than March 23rd. A prize is offered to the winner in this contest. ESSAY: High School students only are to contest for the prize to be given for this paper. The paper is to be not less than 500 words. It will be necessary to have all papers contesting for this prize in my hands not later than March 25th. SHORT STORY; only high school students are to contest for this prizp. The paper is to be ret less than five hundred words. Ail papers contesting for this prize will have to be in my hands bv Maich 25th. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF HON. THOMAS W.
