MARINE COUPS WEEK, i lach Growing in Carolina. Marine Corps Week, June 10th to June 16th, when thousands of recruits are need ed and should be enrolled un der the naval increase act, serves to call attention strik ingly to the splendid history of this gallant organization. "The Marine Corps may well be called historic," says a eulogist. ' 'It was the first re gular force established by the Continental Congress. It was authorized in 1775 and during the intervening years it has seen service ashore and afloat in every quarter of the globe, and always with credit to the country and honor to itself. Its efficien cy is a trad ition, readiness has elicited the highest commendations at home, and its bearing, discip line and fighting qualities have earned the warmest en comiums of the foreign con tingents with which it has served. "The American marine is known round the world. A better set up, more fit, more spirited, more energetic and stancher soldier is to be found nowhere. He is the first ashore, where he always knows how to take care of himself, and the last to stay at the fight as well as the first in, always brave, always cheerful, always dextrous and ever steady." The recruiting movement is worthy the aid of every one.
