Dr. Smith has made several visits here in this capacity and has given utmost satisfaction in every respect. Col. W. F. Beasley has been in the city several days this week. Sometime ago we refer ed to Col. Beasley as being from . Baltimore, .but while he was in town this week, he gave us a good raking over the coals for the offense, as he terms it- He stoutly denies citizenship at that place, and vehemently declares that while he has a good oppro tunity of claiming the best spot on the globe as his home he shall do so whenever the opportunity presents itself. Hereafter, no matter what mistake we might make, keep it in mind that the jovial colonel hails from Wash ington County, North Carolina, U. S- A. The Insurance and Realty Co., together with some other indus trial and development companies, of the Sooth, are arranging for a great, advertising campaign whereby the lands, climate and wonderful advantages of this section will be placed before home-seekers of the United States. The combination will open an office, or an information bureau, in the middle West, where home-seekers or investors may go and find what they want. This will-be a great opportunity for land-owners to place their lands on the market and we hope Washington County will avaU herself of the opportunity, and reap the reward. See the notice of the Insurance and Realty Co., in this paper. ' Poles To Be Removed From Streets. At a recent meeting of the Board of Councilmen it was or dered that all telephone, tele- graph and electric light poles that are now located in the streets be removed to the curb , ing on or before August 1st ( Failure to obey this ordinance 1 will cause owners of such poles to be fined $5.00 for each pole each day that they are left in the streets after the date men tioned. Serious Wind Storm. Last Friday afternoon a severe wind storm struck here, pre ceedei by low, heavy clouds and some rain. Many of -the trees were stripped of limbs, and gome "property damaged resulted. The greatest property damage, probably, was the wrecking of a new building being erected by Mr. E. R. Jackson at the foot of Water street. The building was torn completely down, entailing a lose of approximately $500.00. iAt the time of the storm the building, which was 79x22x22 ft. , in proportions, was rapidly near--ino- completion. Some of the lumber used in the construction was saved. Boy Scouts Raise Flaff. Yesterday morning Master Cyril Norman, Julian Brinkley and Ryland White, members of the Boys Scouts organization here, assisted by Mrs. S. N. Gul- ley, raised the American Flag at the entrance of the Plymouth Garage & Motor Co.'s garage at the foot of Water street. Whenever anything of a pat riotic nature is to be done the Boy Scouts can be found on the job, as has been demonstrated on several occasions. Mr. L. W Gurkin, the popular proprietor of the Plymouth Garage & Motor Co., also demonstrates a very patriotic spirit in procuring the flag and other things essential to Us installation. ; Sanderson-Swain. On Sunday morning last at 10:30 o'clock at the home of the bride, Miss Annie Sanderson was quietly married to Mr. Leon Swain, by Justic J. T. McNair. The immediate members of the families and a few select friends were present. Miss Sanderson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sander son, and is a young lady of many sterling qualities. She has been employed by Mr. J. C. Spruill for some time as a saleslady. She enjoys the confidence of numerous friends in this section. Mr. Swain is a native of Roper, but has been living in Plymouth for some time, he being in the employ of the Wilts Veneer Co. Mr. Swain is a young man re spected by all who know him for his quiet, easy manners and genteel demeanor. The Beacon offers the happy couple its heartiest congratula tions.
