1 . ...v NEW HEALTH LAWS What the Legislature Did in the Interest of Better Health in North Car olina. The last General Assembly; backed by Governor T. W. Bick ett, enacted probably more mod ern and progressive health leg islation than any other General Assembly North Carolina has ever seen. While there were several pieces of valuable legis lation which failed of passage, there was enough other good leg islation enacted to amply justify calling this a traly public health Legislature. . Chief among the new health laws enacted were a State-wide Q larantine Livv, a Meaical In spection of Schools Law, a Ru ral Sanitation Liw. a Law for the Prevention of Blindness, a Hotel Inspection Law, and a Liw liaq-iiring'the Inspection and Hygienic Cire of Prisons and Prisoners. NOTICE OF LETTING CON TRACT. The Board of Drainage Commissioners of Albemarle Drainage District (Beau fort County Drainage District No. 5) will on Monday, June 18th. 1917, at ten o'clock in the forenoon at the office of Small, MacLean, Uragaw .v Rodman, at torneys for the said district; receive bids, either as a whole or in sections, as they deem most advantageous for the district for the work of construction of the proposed improvement consisting of a main canal ue-enteun laterals and two sub'.atera's as o ;t!luocl in the fhu, report of envjhieer and viewers filed with the Clerk c.f Suuerior Court of Beaufort County on April II, 1017, to gether with certain incidental work as therein specified. Th 5 intercepting canal is also to be enlarged and and cleaned out as speci fied in said report, and estimated at 93,300 cubic yards; certain fills and bridges are also to be constructed as described in said report. The contract will be based on the plaus and specifications submitted by the engineer and viewers in their final report, and as confirmed by the court, the original of which is on file in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court of Beaufort County, and is open to the in spection of all pmsoeclive bidders; but the Board reserves the right to correct errors and modify the details if, in their judgment, they can increase the ef ficitucy of the drainage plan thereby without increasing the estimated cost. The entire work must be complete within three years from June 15. 1917 and the contractor will be required to give credit and pay for the work here tofore done at the contract price. Any further information will be furnished by said attorneys or by F. M. Edgerton, Supt. of construction, Bel- haven, N. C.
