nil Illiiin miff V THE ROANOKE BEACON C V. W.AUSBON f.j. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY. Plymouth, N. C, Friday, August 24th, 1917. MOVING THE BIG DRAFT ARMY. The assembling and moving of the first part of the draft army is a gigantic task which now confronts the war department. The many details are now being worked out and the information as to how the new soldiers are to move is being given to the people. This information to gether with all other important news happenings are found in The Beacon,. When a county or a community begins to realize its resources and commences to take pride in them, it naturally develops and creates new channels for devel opment. Washington County is to have at least two community fairs this year, and preparations have started that warrant both of them being successful issues. This 3 ear, for the first time, Plymouth Township is going to venture at holding a Community Fair, and from the reports that are being circulated it will be one of great proportions, as the people from every section of the township are apparently very much enthused with the idea of "getting together and showing what they have." Already committees have been appointed to look after arrang ing for every phazs of the affair; and they are all at work with a determination to leaye nothing undone that can possibly add to the attractions of the e rent. No definite date has been set for holding the Community Fair, but just as soon as the time has been decided upon we will an nounce it. The Roper Community Fair, which includes all of L3e's Mills Township, is creating a great amount of interest in that com munity, and the committees are receiving really more encourage ment than was at first antici pated. Last year that township held a fair, and only those who attended can know how great a success it proved to ba. Know! odge was gleaned from that oc casion that would never have asserted itself in any other way, and everybody left Roper much wiser than thev were on the day previous. The fair at Roper this year promises to be one of much greater accomplishments. The fur, at Ropsr will be held on October 11th and 12th. Much could be said of the benefits that arise from the commingled - ideas and creations of industrious minds and hands when exhibited in full view of the entire people, who are desi rous of obtaining knowledge on a subject that is not altogether clear to them. A Community Fair is held for the purpose o swapping intelligence and other wise improving the proficiency of the people of every vocation. We are now urging every per Sow a Win my For the best Nort anoke Milling Co. J We have in stocir tractive price. We ver seed that can be p a'sd' I prices on winter seed oats are most reasonable. C. .njpubii.hr. C. S. AUSBON son within the districts mention ed above to demand that they be allowed to participate in these events, and to offer complete co operation in every respect to those who are in charge of the arrangements. There is some thing that all can do. There is something that all must do, if these fairs are to be just what they should be : and that is, something that will have a direct appeal to every person within the townships which are to have these events. People living outside the two townships are urged to prepare to attend the Community Fairs, for they will be benefitted as much as those who are to be responsible for the occasions- Both Roper and Plymouth ex tend a most cordial welcome to the people di this section to gather with them on the occasion of the fairs, and for them to feel just like "home-folks" as soon as they tie their horses, get off the train, put their auto-J mobile m a garage or leave their Ford on the corner.
