We firmly believe in labor be
ing properly paid, but labor
trouble3 seldom occur except
through the over paid classes.
And just now, when our country
is in vital need of their services,
and when many of them are
drawing more pay than they
ever dreamed of earning, it
seems little short of treason for
k' the big organizations in our ship
yards, navy-yards, coal mines
and railroads to be causing
trouble about bigger pay, when
they know it is not only helpwR
our enemies to fight us, but is
running up prices and working
a double hardship upon then
less paid brothers whose wages
depends upon profits.
We do not believe in retalia
tion, unless it be in returning
good in kind, but suppose thesi
men who are now getting fron
$5 00 to $12 00 per day for oigfr
hours work should be drawn b
conscript and hare conunuuu..
service, away from home and
loved ones, as so many just as
good men are doing to-day, for
$33.00 per month ?
In calling attention to Red
Cross Week, beginning Monday,
Oct., 8th, Mrs. Jas. W. Norman,
Chairman Plymouth Auxiliary,
makes a strong app3al to ih
children to make sacrifices for
it, which if heeded will be very
beautiful, and suggests how this
may be done. She also asks trie
parents to encourage their child
ren in this, and we add some
suggestions as to how th;s car
easily be done, using as exam
pies what soma others are do
ing. One way is to contribute
an amount equil to your living
exDenses for one week, or eer.
rra Aot This miv be a little
hard for some of the realh
noorer people, but your sacrific-
in doing this will be insignificant
compared with that of those who
are fisrhting for you, and will be
no sacrifice at all to those whose
inf.-Tia is Greater than then
living expenses Another way
is to count every cent you
spend next week for what is not
positively necessary and give a
like amount: or, suppose you
fill one or more comfort bags ;
they cost about $2 50 or $3.00
each Thoss who have boys in
the army, no matter how poor
they are. are going to do their
part in addition to this, and cer
tainly those who have no boys
there should feel grateful, and
consider it a pleasant privilege
to do ajl they can for those who
are doing so much for them.
Of course the above is only
suggestions which are not un
reasonable, but smaller amounts
will help to lighten the hard
ships of the boys at the front,
so don't wait to be called upon,
but send in to the Red Cross
Auxiliary whatever amount you
feel like contributing.

Mr. Dillon brought in a numbf 1
of prospective buyers last week.
The majoriety of them were
from Beaufort County and a few
were from Illinois. Two largt

The fact is significant that the
demand for land by our near
