The Columbia birls took the lead right from the start and the score at the end of the half stood at 15-4 M. Smith, with a total of 17 points was high scorer for Columbia. Spruill and Davidson featured for Roper with six points each. The Roper boys led at the end of j the first quarter with a score of 10 to Columbia's two points. Columbia j rallied and the score at the end of [the half stood at 13-10 in favor of Roper. However, the Columbia lads (;ained the lead during the 3rd per iod and stayed ahead to the end of the game. William Noble is the author. Local Young Man Is Aviation Cadet -« Seymour Johnson Field, N. C.— Avialion Cadet William S. McCombs, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Mc Combs, 113 3rd Street, Plymouth, ar rived this w:eek at the Aviation Ca det Pre-Teehnical School at this sta tion of the Army Air Forces Eastern Technical Training Command. He will be stationed here for Of ficers Basic Training, after which he will be sent to advanced technical school for specialized courses. He en tered the service on October 10, 1942. Cadet McCombs attended West Vir ginia University and he was employ ed by the North Carolina Pulp Com pany in Plymouth prior to being sworn into the army. MACKEYS Cpl. Mrs. Wilbur Daniels and son. of : High 'School Girls Defeat Town Team In Fraclice Game Score, 25 to 19; 50 Fans See First Game Here Last Friday The Town Girl's Basketball Team was defeated in a practise game by the High School team last Friday night. The score was 25 to 19 It was planned to have a game for the Panthers with the Roper town team, but Roper was unable to get here. The game was witnessed by about 50 fans who braved the low tempera tures and came out to the school gymnasium. No admission was charged since this way only a practise game. Tire town team did not have quite enough players so Mrs. Liverman played forward on theat team, and scored high for them with 10 points. Jerry Jackson featured for the high school team with 12 points. The town :eam was hampered by the fact that they had no substitutes while the school has an abundance of players and five substitutes were sent in dur ing the game. Following is the starting lineup for the teams. The numbers indicate ooints scored: Town Team Forwards: Louise Nobles, 6: Mrs. Liverman. 10: and Grace Waters, 1.
