LABOR ADVOCATE PRAISES
SPEECH OF C. B. DEAVER
The Asheville Labor Advocate, a
new publication in the interest of
organized labor, which is published
by J. F. Barrett, is loud in words
of praise for Brevard as a result of
the recent visit here by the editor
when the local ’ carpenters union
gave a banquet to the members of
the i;nion and their friends.
The Advocate says three big in-
ilnstrial concerns will soon start
enterprises in Brevard, but does
not name them. It says that the
banquet “was the scene of one of
the most enthusiastic labor gather
ings ever held in this section.”
The principal address of the eve
ning was delivered by Charles B.
Deaver and the Advocate says it
was a “masterful plea.”
The new publication is filled with
labor news, mostly of Asheville,
Concerning Mr. Deaver’s speech it
says:
“Charles B. Deaver, of Brevard,
former representative in the legis
lature from Transylvania, dees hot
carry a working card in any branch
of organized labor. But he is a
strong believer in the principles of
unionism, and has made a close
study of these principles, as was
evidenced by his wonderfully clear
si)eech made on that subject at the
recent banquet given by the car
penters’ union at Brevard. Mr.
Deaver is one of the leading law
yers of that county, and that ac
counts for the fact that he is not a
member of organized labor. His
opening statement that all wealth
is created by labor was followed by
arguments which show'ed that Mr.
Deaver has given much study to
the relation of labor to capital, and
he w^as insistent in his contention
that labor should have its full share
of the wealth which it creates, and
the only way in which labor could
hope to receive anything like a fair
share of that wealth was through
the organization of the laborers.
“Mr. Deaver’s speech was thor
oughly enjoyed by those hearing
him and it was especially gratify
ing to the members of the carpen
ters’ union in Transylvania county,
for the stand which Mr. Deaver
took left no doubt as to his friend
ship for the members of that organ
ization.”

UGH! CALOMEL MAKES
YOU DEATHLY SICK
* BOYLSTO> ITEMS. *
Rev. W. E. Barker of Brevard
preached at Boylston Sunday a
mighty fine sermon on Christ; the
backward look, upward look in
ward look and the forward look to
Christ. He preached a very im
pressive sermon. A large congre
gation heard him. Here’s hoping
he will give ns another sermon in
the near future. Several Blantyre
people were here to hear Mr.
Barker preach.
The majority of Boylston people
have been on the sick list with la-
grippe and colds for the past two
weeks, bnt all are improving.
Dr Bill Lyday was over on onr
side Sunday visiting the sick.
A proposed telephone line is be-
ing talked down onr way. We
think it is mostly talk as we haven't
seen any telephone wires or receiv
ed any messages yet. Here’s hoping
for a connecting line with Hender-
sonville and Brevard.
Vanes Smathers has been buying
several calves lately and has sold a
fine yoke of oxen to Drexel Brown
of Etowah.
Willey Taylor is making some
fine improvements on Mrs. Addie
Orr’s farm down onr way. Noth.
ing better that we all like to see
than improvements on farms.
D. L. Brainard of Pisgah Forest
will preach at Boylston Snndav
morning.
Stop Usins Dangerous Drug Be
fore It Salivates You!
It’s Horrible!
You’re bilious, sluggish, constipated and
believe you need vile, dangerous calomel
to start your liver and clean your bowels.
Here’s my guarantee! Ask your drug
gist for a 50 cent bottle of Dodson’s Liver
Tone and take a spoonful tonight. If it
doesn’t start your liver and straighten you
right up better than calomel and without
griping or making you sick I want you to
go back to the store and get your money.
Take calomel today and tomorrow you
will [feel weak and sick [and nauseated.
Don’t lose a day’s work. Take a spoonful
of harmless, vegetable Dodson’s Liver
Tone tonight and wake up feeling great.
It's perfectly harmless, so give it to your
children any time. It can’t salivate, so
let them eat anything afterwards.—Ad
vertisement.

Important Notice
To Taxpayers!
To the Taxpayers of Transylvania County:
Owing to the fact that I have but a
short time in which to collect the taxes
now due, I take this opportunity of noti
fying those taxpayers who have not yet
paid their taxes that same must be set
tled immediately.
Heretofore, during my terms of office
as Sheriff of Transylvania County, I have
been able to give extra time for the set
tlement of taxes, but this year, no longer
being Sheriff, I cannot grant this exten
sion.
I will have to give up my office in
the Court House on May 1st, and 1 am,
therefore, going to garnishee and levy
for all taxes due, unless parties make
satisfactory arrangements with me at
once.
1 would appreciate immediate settle
ment so as to know the extent to which
I shall have to garnishee and levy, which
work I shall begin with at a very early
date.
All those owing taxes will save costs
and trouble by settling promptly.
Respectfully,
J. H. PICKELSIMER,
Tax Collector.
