CONSERVATION OF COAL While it is almost impossible to obtain coal in tho town, and, with the knowledge that the government has commandeered 1U; of nil pro. duction, and, the continued high cust this year, any saving of coal that may he rlVectcd, not only means-1 a saving of money to each and every one of us, but, also means that so much labor is left for other purposes, and anything that will In li to save find should he adopted tiy everv householder and nianu fact urer. Wednesday's Asheville Citizen carries an editorial on tho subject, which should be read by everyone, and, for the henelit of those that may not see it, the writer gives his own experience. If each user of a furnare or stove will take th cinders, as they drop into the ashpan, out daily, or sev eral times daily and mix them with a little water so as to make thoroughly moist, these cinders and a-hes can be u.-ed just the sumc as c al, by putting them on a hot tiro thinly, and will be consumed just the same as if coal were used, and, in tact, will make a hotter tint and will result in tho saving of at least M 0 ' w"(j with tho carrying out and dispsal of ashes, as well as mean less smoke. This is certainly worth a trial, and onco tried the conumr will never stop effecting this saving. Jos. K SlIAKKUTKKN, Member Council National Defense. November 7, 1U17.
