ROSNANNEWS Corn whiskey caused bad trouble at Reed’s Siding, Saturday night be tween Neil Prince and Dillia Fisher, Fisher being stabbed serioualy by Prince about 2 o’clock Sunday morn ing. J. Z. Stroupe, policeman of Rosman and R. K. Powell were called to the scenc of the tragedy to arrest Prince. They reached Prince’s resid ence about 6:30 and found him in bed asleep. They returned to Ros man on the 8:36 train and had Prince before Justice E. M. Whitmire, who committed him to jail and he was carried to Brevard on the evening train to await the spring term of crim inal court, which begins April 14th. Dr. English reports Fisher in a seri ous condition. Stroupe and Powell made a raid in the Reeds Siding community which re sulted in the capture of a large Block ade distillery of 100 gallon capacity, near the Gulch on Toxaway river, about four miles southeast of Lake Toxaway. They destroyed about 500 gallons of beer and one large stand of mash. QUEBEC NEWS Edna Ellen, the seven months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Mc Call died March 6, of pneumonia. They have the deep sympathy of ‘all, in the loss of their only daughter. Rev Manley preached a very help ful sermon here Sunday. He will sup ply this church for six months— and we hope for a number of years. Norma Chapman attended the teachers’ meeting at Brevard. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Fisher went to Brevard Saturday. Wilkes Reid from Rosman visited his father and mother on Sunday. Maxie Reece came from Pisgah For cst to spent the week-end at home. M. O. McCall has moved back here from Calvert. We are glad to say that Miss Ker mis Bainard who has quite ill, at home, is improving and hopes to take up her studies soon at Fruitland, where she has been a student before her illness. Misses Minnie and Stella McCall of Greenville S. C. spent the week end visiting at the home of Miss Etta McCall. Mrs. J. W. Morris spent last week at Blantyre visiting her grand-daugh ter, Miss Evelyn King. Miss Arietta McCall and brother, Dewey, spent the week-end with re latives in this section. Arthur Smith of Brevard section was in this section last Sunday. The many friends of Mrs. Virgil Ray will regret to hear of her death w'hich occurred last Sunday at the hospital in Greenville, S. C. She had been ill for the past few weeks with the flu. She is survived by her hus band, her mother and father; Mr. and Mrs. John Radford, two brothers and two sisters. ROSMAN NEWS J. They found a large outfit containing five big fermenters and 500 gallons of beer, which was made of cotton seed meal. They destroyed the complete outfit with the exqeption of the still and worm, which they could not find. The Junior Auxiliary Literary Society will have a public debate at the Rosman School House, Friday night March 14. W. Whitmire and wife paid W. M. Meece and wife a visit Sunday. Had a very nice prayer meeting at Uncle Tim Galloway’s Sunday. Avery and Tudar Morgan are hauling crossties to the top of the mountain. G. W. Whitmire and Mr. Tom Lance from Old Toxaway are hauling cord- wood from Old Toxaway. GETTESE FORD CALVERT NEWS We are having plenty of rain and mud. I see the Ford cars are not all “stuck up” They pass through our burg very often. Wilford Galloway and Johnie Cook are wearing a pleasant smile today. They caught five muskrats in their traps, this moring. Mrs. J. M. Zachary and daughter, Eila, visited the former’s brother, Paul Brooks of Rosman N. C. Feb. 26, who was seriously hurt while working on the Gloucester Co. R. R. trestle. Milton Eatson visited his cousin, Enge Gillispie, Saturday night. John Fisher who has recently re turned from France, visited his cousin Mrs. T. P. Galloway. Mrs. Bert Cooke made a business trip to Asheville last week. J. M. Zachary had a fine horse to fall dead while hauling on the farm. .\lthough he has bought two more orses since. Mr. and Mrs. Leander Gillispie vis ited Miss Victoria Gillespie on Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Southern of Taylors S. C. visited their neice, Mrs. Edith Galloway Feb 26 on their w^ay to see her sick mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Gillespie. W. M. G.
