People of Brevard who like a good show have had the pleasure thia week of hearing some real Kentucky Belles sing and seeing some comedians that ere really funny. Morton’s iCentncky Belles appeared at the auditorium on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and played to packed houses on all three occasions. There waa an entire change of program every night and one of the leading features of each performance was the novelty act by Mr. DeGrace, whose skill as an acrobatic artist won much ap> plause. He held the breathless atten tion of his audience as he perfarmed one remarkable feat i^ter another. He danced around the stage with a cigarette paper balanced perpendicu larly on his nose and held nine chairs balanced on his chin with equal ease. As a climax to his work he made a pyramid of chairs more thain ten feet high and balanced himself on two legs of the topmost one and rocked f back and forth with an amazing dis regard to all possible consequences. Brevard has never imagined such singing and probably never entertain ed a party of visitors who were more appreciative of the courtesies extend ed by citizens of the town or more enthusiastic over the natural advan tages of the surrounding country. The principals in the troupe. Miss De- Grace, Miss Matthews, and Messrs. DeGrace, Matthews and Morton de clare that if they ever take a vacation they expect to spend it here. Mr. Morton, the manager'of the comedy, is an enthusiastic fisherman. He spent Wednesday afternoon in Pis- gah Forest and caught the limit of rainbow trout. Miss ^ Mathews, the prima donna of the company, is a North Carolinian, who formerly play ed leading parts with the Tanhauser Film Co. Her home is near High Point, where she owns and operates an up-to-date poultry farm. Mr. Morton, the manager, is also a Tar heel and had his first stage experience in amatuer theatricals produced by the high school at Thomasville, N. C. He made his debut on the profession al stage as the leading man in “The Convict’s Daughter,” which he says was a five-act melodrama that played a one-night stand all over the map. CHIEF RESIGNS Chief Holliday, who has served for the past six months as the head of Brevard’s Police force has resign ed his position.
